  • OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance,

I have given up calling the employees of the Herald, Journalists, even those with that word in their job description. If they must have a word to differentiate them from the mail boy or the tea lady, the press operator or the typesetter (yes I am that old) then let it be Advertising Copywriter or, as the early elite of that field were called, Madmen.

  • OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance, in reply to Rob S,

There is a cloud over this Government and all it's actions point to them not wanting to be held to account for their deeds.

    Hear hear, Sir's right Madam.

  • OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

the issue cannot be dealt with through the normal machinery of Government

When the Government is Team Key the problem is beyond that.

That's about 40% of eligible voters and 48% of those who bothered to vote.

So, 60% of eligible voters, which is more than half, didn't vote national. Even if you factored in an even split between National and Others among the eligible non voters, which I would doubt but obviously have no proof, it is still more correct to say half didn't as opposed to half did. If you take the entire population into account then I would say way more than half didn't.
So I am right and you are wrong. ;-)

Anyway it was just a play on a Dennis Skinner quote...

Half the Tory members opposite are crooks.
He was then told to withdraw the remark.

OK, half the Tory members aren’t crooks.

And please can people stop saying half of New Zealand voted for National … sigh.

Can we say half of them didn't?
I think, statisticaly, that is more accurate.

  • OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance, in reply to Rob S,

Something dark has been going on in our Government and the media has let obvious bluster and obfuscation pass as a rebuttal.

Too true, we need a proper inquiry.

For me, it would have been nice if the media actually fact checked Key’s quotes before they published them.

    To be fair RNZ did

Indeed, the media failed – or succeeded – in propaganda winning on the day.

    Brilliant and without Godwin. Excellent.
I have tried to say this so often, you said it better.

Honestly, can’t people remember when Labour was the big dog and those on the right were saying the media was crap cause they lost.

You are kidding right? You are referring to the Brash defeat presumably, even Craig admits that National deserved to lose that one. That same media then followed up with an attack on Labour over the electoral finance act, killing our democracy, which was a direct result of Nationals early attempts at "Dirty Politics".
