  • Hard News: Rain on his parade,

The more I examine my thoughts on this, the more I think I'm making aesthetic judgements. BoB = tacky and predictable commercial dodge by a known jerk. Hero Parade = grand community naughtiness after dark, with way better costumes.

This is pretty much my view. I hate the name, hate the look and just find the whole thing dreary. It's too corporate for my tastes. Clichés and economics over art, surprise and fun. I don't begrudge or judge the women the right to live as they want and make money, if they enjoy the job even better, it's nothing to do with me. As for the audience, it's obviously popular so good luck to them but it does nothing for me.

One other thing, I have a little sympathy for Auckland City Council. Steve Crow must be a huge pain in the arse to have existing in your city. Ignoring him is probably the best option but he's managed to play the media so well that I'm not sure this would have been an option for the Council. If they had come out with a statement along the lines of "..he's a dick, we're ignoring him" would they have been applauded for their common sense by ratepayers? I doubt it.

...who are barely competent to organise a gang bang at a sex addicts convention.

Heh, your prose style is just made for this thread Craig.

  • Field Theory: Olympic Eye Candy,

An amazing race by the Evers-Swindells, so tough, good on them! And the Germans were amazing sports, laughing it up on the stand afterwards.

Also, re perving, I agree with Damian, accidentally happened to flick across to the Poland/Cuba indoor volleyball match and found myself momentarily incapacitated.

  • Hard News: A bit tacky, no?,

When did this cute "Natty" get coined? New spin on Natty Dread this year, I suppose.

Yes, we might all be under heavy manners by December.

  • Field Theory: Handle the Scandal,

If I start going on about TVNZ's coverage I'll soon be !!!!111 - ing far more than is healthy

    you'll be *&@!# Quax-ing

Not trying to threadjack or anything but all the &@! made me think of the Liam Gallagher interview in the Times Online this week. It included this paragraph in reply to being asked if he would have sold his wedding photos to a tabloid like Wayne Rooney did:

“Absolutely f###### nothing. It smells funny, it doesn’t sit right. I’d have to be well and truly f###### desperate. I’d have to be homeless. It’s like, haven’t you got e-f######-nough, you little ####? I find that hard to f###### take. But that’s famous people for yer. When they’re not on the f###### telly they want to be in a f###### magazine and when they’re not in a magazine they want to be on a f###### bottle of water. It’s like, f###### chill the f### out, you can’t do one f###### job right let alone f###### trying to do f###### five, you ####!”

    Respect.

  • Hard News: The newest neocon catastrophe,

Reminds me of English football hooligans.

Presumably because they make big budget movies about the English ones? In reality the organised mass hooligan element has largely died out in English football culture and you're far more likely to find the proper stuff in Turkey, Italy or Eastern European countries like Serbia and Poland than you are in England.

That's not to say the fans sit side by side in harmony and there isn't the odd bit of argy bargy but all seater stadiums and family areas etc... have largely cleaned up the game.

  • Field Theory: Did you see that?,

Australia sports teams seem to have completely lost it on the uniform front.

To be fair, you're screwed from the outset if your apparel choices can only come in yellow and green. They can call it gold all they want but the rest of us will always know it's yellow baby, candy coloured wrongness.

  • Hard News: A few days away,

The commentators during the footie were pretty bad. Constantly trying to talk up the genius and creativity of Brazil's play when it was actually a fairly workman-like performance on the Brazilians part. The oppo were so poor they never had to pull any tricks out of the bag, just a patient passing game. They were really treading water for most of the game in the certainty it was going to be 4+ in the net regardless.

Besides football shouldn't be in the Olympics anyway. It's too big a sport and they don't have their best players there (well the men's football anyway.)

Football, tennis and golf should not be there. The Olympics should be the ultimate for an athlete to achieve in their sport but that's not the case for any of these sports, it's a diversion. Ask Lionel Messi if he'd rather have a World Cup and a Champions League trophy medal or an Olympic Gold. No contest.

Loving the Joe Higgs track, well done.

Right, let's not muck around, it's Friday so two very different party tunes making most excellent use of the mother ucker (as FotC's might say).

Pigeonhed' Battleflag gives it up to the Soprano's.

Mylo's Drop the Pressure for any '80s heads in the house.
