and be sent to Coventry (or whatever the Aotearoian equivelent is, Timaru?)
Shades of an old Fifties radio skit I heard once about a British couple moving into a new house - naturally the place needed a suitable name, but nothing seemed to fit. In desperation the lady of the house asked her husband to think of some rustic place he'd visited in the country and name the house after that - unfortunately all that came up was Dartmoor.

Just for a brief diversion, prompted by mention of the Chartists: the Sunday after next is the 190th anniversary of Peterloo. The crowd that got charged by armed cavalry at St Peter's Fields had assembled to demand reforms to parliament, similar to what the Chartists would demand later on - including universal suffrage, ballot voting and annual parliaments.
The more you know, etc.

Amy Gale: magnificent.

I demand a lower-resolution image!

Felafel: I'm Blowing It Right Now
Now that's just weird.
Possibly related, in a puerile sort of way...

I've also made Chinese dumplings, they seem like a lot of work too when you can get them for cheap at the Asian Supermarkets.
Yup. We've run into some pretty good frozen dumplings from Tai Ping/Silver Bell etcetera, and even the average ones can make a nice dumpling soup.
Agreed, making these things at home really is a lot of work, and herself and I usually only bother for special occasions and guests. Whipping some up for dinner midweek from scratch would be madness, but when the time is right the results are worth it - you can get the dough just right, prepare the fillings you always wanted but weren't available premade from the chiller, and to boot you've got the pleasure of a few hours' quality time with your fellow cooks before you enjoy the results.
Sorry for a longish belated comment, this involves a real favourite food of mine. And I really should not have read this thread before breakfast...

Another neat post by Danyl who's been writing a fair bit on the topic this week:
I think it’s safe to say National has won this battle. I’m always impressed at the Labour Party’s ability to get into a fight they can’t lose and then lose it.
I guess we have to wait for the outcome of the privacy complaint to see where this story goes next; it seems likely that Bennett will be found to have broken the law, and it also seems likely that Labour will find some way to use the finding to embarrass themselves and cover Bennett in glory.

Oh, yeah! Forgot to mention (O/T, sorry), for anyone who might've missed it that, despite massive community opposition, McDonalds' application for consent for a Balmoral "restaurant" has, with minor restrictions, been granted.
A savage servility slides by on grease...

Having thought a little more, is it a sign of the fiscal times that regional bodies are apparently champing at the bit for just $9 million in cycleway spending?
But yes, the PR too.

Really? I'm not really sensing that same entirely uniform delusion in the pages of the Herald, unless Armstrong is being set up for a spell of reeducation.
Amusing link though. Maybe we just need to build a War Memorial Tower to draw Endless Streams of Visitors.
