Nor that of my youth. The point was neatly illustrated today with the DomPost publishing a facsimile of the "wrap-around supplement to The Dominion to mark man's greatest achievement"
16 pages. Content. Oh my, the content. As rich as Whittakers.
Don't suppose they digitised any of this for linkability? Otherwise I might just have to buy a copy...

hey cuz! And I used to work at the Auckland Star, too! Bloody hell, the world just keeps getting smaller and smaller.
Heh. My grandad wrote for the Star - did a TV column (and I think some racing coverage at some point too). I have a heavy old three-drawer filing cabinet as proof, which I think he liberated from the office when the paper closed. Sadly it's probably going to be surplus to requirements before long...

Heraldwatchwatch: it appears that the formerly lively Editing the Herald is on hiatus. Guess I'll have to start complaining about Garth and YV for myself again...

Don't knock 'em - lots of people are employed by Kafkaesque bureaucracies. Their work maybe pointless and contribute nothing to society, but no more so than most jobs if you look at them from a high enough perspective.
It's the inertia and risk-averseness you might get in any large, established organisation, I suppose. From experience these bureaucracies are composed of a lot of very intelligent and capable people who are actually desperate to make some kind of detectable real-world difference, despite the inertia that can often set in.
This post is my own personal view and is not approved or otherwise endorsed by the Ministry of Kafka (Manatu Kawhika).

The moral of the story? If you have two or more jobs, do your tax return!
I have had five employers in the last year, and having just received a tidy refund I can only agree with this.

I don't mind if they put folate in my bread but who asked permission to put palm oil in my chocolate?
I see that Cadbury have taken it upon themselves to put a full-page ad in the Herald, talking about how the smaller bars are for the good of consumers (such a shame the retailers still charge you the same for less chocolate, not our fault!) and how they've added a small amount of "pure vegetable fat", sourced sustainably of course. A bit late to try and put out that PR fire, folks, I gave up on your product a couple of months ago...

Bugger. Sorry Emma and Hadyn for the mistake.

Damn, I posted in the wrong thread a moment ago. A 17-centimetre tsunami?
-
Potential tsunami warning in place.
A NIWA chap on the radio last night reported that there *was* in fact a tsunami as expected - it was about fifteen centimetres high. Surf's up in Tinytown.

Really Jack -- no media report I've seen has disclosed the location of the bloody place. Epic fail is how the kids put it, I believe.
Pedant's point: the name of the place was noted in the SST report in Emma's post - 25 Cross Street, which is obviously also its street address.
