  • Hard News: Game Lorde,

    This comment below the Herald review is hilariously wrong I just had to share;

"Elle is pretty awesome but she is and always will be a fringe singer with a boutique audience. Nothing wrong with being successful in alternative music, it's just you have to realize that is what she is and whats she is good at."

I know, sharing dumb comments is dumb but this one made me smile. I'd rather like 'boutique audience' of this size.

...let me jump on a side track

I have no problem drinking fluoride but I also think if enough people don't want it in the water supply then it shouldn't be there. Europe seems to be getting on fine without it. We offer iodised salt, we could add fluoride to that mix. Then people could make the choice for themselves.

To dismiss any debate on fluoride as Dr Strangelove insanity is ridiculous. You actually miss the point that only about half of our country has fluoridated water, so what is happening to the other 50%? A salt system would reach a broader population base, give people the choice and take the risk away of overexposure to bottle fed infants. Certainly worth discussing.

  • Hard News: So long, and thanks for all…, in reply to Kyle Matthews,

I can’t comment on his tree chopping abilities

He has been known to help out with the xmas tree sales at the Aro Valley Community Centre.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Bright pastel…,

Really top piece of writing Russell, I loved it.

All three members of The Clean are such vivid lovely people. Every New Zealander seems to have a great night out/yarn/tour with at least one member.

I had a really pleasant evening chatting with Hamish and my friend Andy Harris (who lives in Montauk, NY) out side the scene of a very messy CMJ event where we had just played. Somehow we ended up providing the backline for about 15 bands. I was the sober driver and had to stay awake and sober while everyone else in the band partied like James Belushi. Hamish and Andy kept me awake and sane until the 5am packout. Good sober conversation on a Brooklyn sidewalk for hours. I appreciated it as much as any of the excellent Clean gigs I have seen since first seeing them at Bodega about 15 years ago.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Reinventing Beatles,

I concur with Simon about the Beatles cover legalities. They may have been given some cloudy info by Sony. Covering stuff is fairly simple legally if you are selling it in an industry standard fashion and paying your mechanicals etc. Unless it contains samples I guess...? I don't really know much about this stuff but this doesn't seem right.

Doprah, I am liking this band...definitely one to watch as is Race Banyon http://racebanyon.bandcamp.com
Teens making music who have no problem jumping back and forth from rock bands to dance music. It's the way it should be (was so territorial when I was starting out).

Also, here is another TPF remix if anyone is interested. This one by Riki Gooch. It's pretty aggressive on first listen. By the third play it started sounding strangely soothing.

We have a bunch more remixes coming. It's something most of the band don't take much interest in (or are perhaps suspicious of) but I'm throwing stems at anyone who's keen.

  • Hard News: Music: The Love of Food,

I was in such a daze I had no idea there was food for us on Wednesday! Sorry about that, I dragged James off to 'Nam for some lemongrass chicken.

Todays horrifying instalment made a deeply satisfying read. That such frustrating and disgusting set of circumstances can be so funny is rather brilliant.

  • Hard News: Kitchen Hacks,

AND I sometimes heat up my cast iron in the over and then cook my pizzas in the preheated iron pans. They turn out a little bit TOO crispy perhaps, like Pizza hut, but it is kinda delicious.

  • Hard News: Kitchen Hacks,

Me and your food processor need to have a knead-off. And I don’t like your food processor’s chances.

Turns out better than kneading my hand*

*unless hand kneading is performed by a human Italian person.

...seriously though, it works crazy good. Best pizza dough I have ever made. Also I have done it with Italian 00 flour and NZ brad flour... best is cheap standard flour in this context.
