I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but the Pizza Hack that has changed my life is this;
MAKE YOUR DOUGH IN THE FOOD PROCESSOR! It is quick, tidy and it turns out better than hand kneading. The recipe can be found in Mark Bittman's How To Cook Everything which has replaced the Edmonds in our house as the ultimate basic cooking reference.
Nuke a couple of agrias, slice onto your easy-as dough, splosh some olive oil, scatter some rosemary... thats some tasty arse, fancy looking, to fookin easy dinner right there.

Cabana in Napier is good simple venue. I like it. I assume part of why the sound is so good can be attributed to the late great Ian Morris.

St James theatre is another great Auckland venue. Please someone fix it up...but don't fix it up too much.

Totally agree about the need for 'boxes'. Wellington is in the process of losing its best mid sized venue. The thoroughly box shaped San Fran Bathhouse. A bit of character in a venue is all good and well, but sight-lines and sound are unquestionably more important.
A thing which I love about a lot of US venues (and some UK/Euro venues) is having a cool, comfy bar that then leads into an entirely separate performance space. The performance areas quite often being really dull, rectangular spaces that couldn't be confused as anything other than a venue. I think it can encourage people to go to the venues early and socialise...or stick around after the shows and maybe have a drink with the band. When the bars is close to the stage it seriously restricts soundcheck, and when its time to turn on the lights and pack up it kills the vibe of the room wether the bar is staying open or not.

I love that Watercolours track, definitely the best NZ artist to appear in recent times.

My brother gave a cassette copy (a real one, from a shop!) of VU when I was 14. I can honestly say it changed my life. I didn't have the cover and had no idea it was collection of odds and ends. Fuck I love it. Years later, it is still my favourite album of theirs and it's not even a real album.
How could a band go through its career without releasing Stephanie Says? How does that get left in the vaults? Or Foggy Notion, or any of the other tracks on that record.
Also, Chelsea Girl, totally brilliant, I love it... I don't understand how they can squeeze it on to a Velvets box set though, that seems a bit tenuous.

So many gigs. It's amazing, but also financially draining. I have decided to forgo Black Sabbath and The Stone Roses (even though I have long standing love both bands). Radiohead kinda blew the budget. I have forked out too much money for Morrissey tickets and he just better be good (if he plays 'There Is A light' it will be entirely worth it).
The Laneways lineup is starting to look really interesting. Policia and Real Estate have upped my excitement considerably.
And as for Neil Young, he blew my mind at BDO. Gotta see him again. Pretty F#$@$ expensive.

I think some of the best satire draws from utterly indefensible content (The Onion is full of horrible, hilarious things) and for a lot of writers its just too fine a line. You can't be a deadpan bigot as your audience will a) think you're a bigot and hate you b)think you're a bigot and love you or c) think your humour is unwise because of groups a and b being too stupid to pick up on the irony.
I don't know what my point is here.
