  • Hard News: Sunday in Super City,

Not always, I'm afraid! There's recently been a reduction in the number of trains that stop at Baldwin Ave

My understanding in that Baldwin Ave can't handle the longer trains they are putting on at peak hours. Sometimes these have the extra carriages not opening though, so they are empty but you get squeezed into a full carriage. Still the trains are a lot better that when I gave up on using them 10 years ago.

Onehunga Station has the same problem but it's brand new, not old and small like Baldwin St.

  • Voting Local 2010,

I'm undecided as to whether to give my vote to Annalucia Vermunt (Communist League)

    Interesting that someone claims they

champions struggles against racism and for the rights of women, Maori, and immigrants

    Yet in the same breath

oppose NZ government bullying of Pacific nations like Fiji

I don't see the current Fiji government doing a lot for the struggles she champions

Nominative determinism was rife in my former department

Thankfully not the case in my old department where the mortician of 20 years standing was Peter Cook

  • Hard News: Wanna Route?,

The only problem for me on my cycle to school is the amount of broken glass in the cycle lanes

I read about this somewhere. I used to hate this as well, and also wander why Murphy's Law meant I always got a puncture in the rain. Roads are designed to wash small bits of crap off and into the gutter in the rain. Unfortunately cycles and cycle lanes are to the left as well so the bits of glass etc accumulate as they wash away from the middle. Lots of cars tyres spraying water helps as well. So when it rains all the glass winds up under our tyres - yay

  • Hard News: Wanna Route?,

I commute from the New Lynn side of Blockhouse Bay into the Auckland Med Schoolin Grafton daily - if the weather's not looking flash I cycle, if it's clear then I ride a scooter (slightly grown up version of the one kids ride, not the motorised type). Most of my ride is either up or downhill so it keeps me fit.

For a weekend ride I like to do the country roads around the northwest of Auckland - I try to avoid SH16 as it scares the pants off me. There are some seriously cool roads with great climbs and hair raising downhills.
