Hard News: Housing: the Feudal Model, in reply to
there is a fundamental market failure happening: what new housing is being built is not the housing that’s most needed;
The "market" is failing in more than that. As long as the "market" (I put it in quotes because this mythical beast is a creation, made to suit a lazy purpose, just like some peoples god) is slanted to favour those with the most power or money, it is a bad joke.

some of the best minds about cannabis and health from around the world for three days in Auckland, New Zealand 27-29 November.
Eh????
Bet most of them have never even tried it.
wankfest indeed -
when I was feeling paranoid, so too others were feeling the same/similar paranoia themselves
Yeah and in those unfamiliar with owning their own feelings the typical response is to point the collective finger at a scapegoat chosen to suit the purpose. And maybe even go to war... at the very least some form of denigration goes on.

Hard News: Cannabis: The Experiment is Real, in reply to
redirect the ‘criminal punishment’ dept of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) towards the new ‘compassionate action’ dept & instead study & write reports on how people who are inspired to build healthy relationships with each other & will willingly be monitored to build a better, more inclusive, egalitarian society.
Yes well, a laudable aim. A break from a structured society to more responsive caring, environment would be good. 'Criminal justice' is only a part of realising such a change tho :-)
The outcome can only be positive all around…humans are emotionally & spiritually built to connect with others on a heart level, so we should not be shy in investing money on improving societal outcomes.
Over optimistic Sorry :-(
Why not reward the ‘no problem’ people for their monitoring by having a ‘compassionate cup’ type competition annually & celebrate the remarkable benefits of these altered traits that compassionate action has encouraged & that our society now enjoys?
Can I celebrate alone? Not really a people person....
<q.Now that the stigma of cannabis use is eliminated by removing the ‘criminal association’,</q>
That's a good idea...
get out of the mess us humans have created on this poor suffering planet is by huge amounts of applied creative thinking…!!
If we stayed in more. Might be good?

Some people argue we should regulate cannabis because it’s safe – we think it should be regulated because it’s dangerous,
Using the wrong language here. Harmful to health might be a better description. Alcohol is dangerous.
An understanding of why people like to alter their consciousness might go some way helping them come to grips with their musings. Like that'll happen! while we still seem locked into some weird derivative of christian thinking. -

Thanks for enlightening me. So elections are a male construct? ... time it was taken over

Competent men and women, folks. Competency comes first.
We ended up with elections, I guess, because at some stage, we realised having hereditary rulers was a crock. They pandered to their own self interest, the rest of us could eat shit, or so it seemed, to a lot of them. And now Doh!key and co. have come up with a modern version of buggering those who arent in the same monetary class as them.(Well NZ’s version of it).
Having an understanding of how policies will affect lives and empathy, seems to me, to be just as important as competency.
(whatever you mean by that, in what field?)Politics shouldnt become a rarified environment where only those who can play the game well and who fulfil some nebulous criteria(like morality) get a look in. -
After graduating from being insufferable hippies, Lucy's parents embarked on their careers. As the 70s, 80s, and 90s rolled along, the world entered a time of unprecedented economic prosperity. Lucy's parents did even better than they expected to.
And thus the problems facing that generation were easily ignored, and compounded in that studied ignorance. To become a cause of concern for future generations now. Not just one generation.

Hard News: Movie Disaster, in reply to
Yes, the production and performance work is all contracted and the days can be long. But it’s a project-based sector and it’s how people in the industry are used to working. Some of them buy their own gear and hire it out, set-builders have workshops, and so on.
Umm Gordon, seems to me, to be focusing on performers contracts, didnt mention production contracts at all. I dont mind these sorts of projects being made, it pays some peoples bills. But entertainment is only one part of what the film/TV industry should be contributing to society, yet it has become the only focus. Education/ developing ways to spread knowledge about our world around are completely neglected.

He speaks of his Saviour as someone you wouldn’t mind meeting.
If talking was all that was required, we'd all be converted by now haha!
But alas, some of us just hear those voices for what they are, and dont tack a name to it.
I don't doubt a person lived, on whom a lot of the stories are based. But fiction took over a long time ago. And the oldest gospel Mark has an 18 year gap in the "Saviour's" life. And I bet he wasn't serving out his carpentry apprenticeship, more like travelling the spice routes. But ho hum!he went the long way there :-)
Introspection needs a guide otherwise you just come to the wrong end result.
Not lying to yourself is hard to do. His brother, when I meet him in Kiribati and had a few discussions with, is a lovely fellow. But seriously wrong about his jesus too.
