  • Speaker: There's a word for that ...,

And those of us with the right amount of body hair should be able to have a carbon credit due to the less energy required for heating.

  • Discussion: Uncivil Rights,

I'm always dubious of Howard Broad thanks to the Terror Raids, but I'm not opposed to these changes per se.

What does concern me is his obsfucation of events, or what seems to me to be a cynical use of Senior Constable Len Snee death at the hand of Jan Molenaar to reinforce his drive for an offensive para-military force of armed 'police'.

There are pretty simple rules of engagement to my mind. If the suspect has a knife etc, the cop should have a gun. If the suspect has a gun, the armed offenders squad is called in.

The issue in Napier was of course Jan having held weapons without proper oversight consistant with him priviously holding them legally, not in any way a fault or error by Len Snee.

  • Discussion: Uncivil Rights,

If you get to read The Press letters to the editor today.

You'll have worked out Abdullah Drury is now on the SIS watch list.

His letter links Islam (he is the self-styled Islam Historian of Christchurch) and NZ Fascist paradigms, the unstated aspect is anti-Israel etc.

Where these two paradigms meet is where Osama bin Laden lives.

  • Hard News: See you Latta, Bob ...,

Interesting to see Latta is seeking a self-selecting group with a 'difficult' child for his new book. From his ad on his website there is no mention of science, infact he expresses anti-academic sentiments in his "Goldfish Wisdom".

  • Hard News: See you Latta, Bob ...,

Latta on TV1 (as linked by the Herald & DeepRed), thinks that CYFs should turn up if one guy shouts at a kid but that it's 'good' for other parents to hit their kids.

So it isn't about the treatment of children at all, but who the parents are. It starts to make sense now. I bet I can pick good parents out a bit easier now.

He also considers it conservative for the authorities to turn up at the slightest hint of abuse. I thought that would be being PC.

"It does occur to me that he'd be better off dispensing light smacks to errant Cabinet ministers."

But that will show up in the expense accounts that are now being published.

As we've reached for the book of answers already, he's the counter for Bob et al.

    Proverbs -The True Security
    3:31 Do not envy the violent and do not choose any of their ways;
3:32 for the perverse are an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence.
3:33 The Lord's curse is on the houseof the wicked, but the upright aere in his confidence.

Otherwise known as - don't hit your kids, its wrong and CYFs & the Cops will nab ya.

Sirach - True and False Wisdom
37:20 A skillfull speaker may be hated; he will be destitute of all food,
37:21 for the lord has withheld the gift of charm, since he is lacking in all wisdom,

"I should have been able to separate Latta's professional competence from his entertainment work, which I don't greatly like."

I strongly disagree. Lattas professionalism is compromised every time he does his entertainment job. The best the man can do is sooth the minds of the worried well, or good parents.

I'll eat my words (print them off and add salt) if I hear of one violent offender having a change of heart as a result of Latta's change of spots.
