Hard News: The Wall and the Paper, in reply to
So Chris - "Mayor Brown wasn’t responsible for graffitti policy that Shields was operating under (Auckland City Council was), and nor could I expect him to get on top of such policy, given he was sworn in less than four months ago."
In Brown's very first speech as mayor, he went on at length about being anti graffiti and what an important area it was for him as Mayor. So one would expect that if it was so important, he would look at it straight away. And he did. That's why he made a song and dance about painting out the graffiti and tagging covering the buildings on Albert st. And good on him.
I find your suggestion that you wouldn't expect Mayor Brown to get on top of the graffiti policy in less than four months doesn't tally with the Mayor's own statements on the importance of clearing graffiti and tagging from Auckland.

ok, then. Fair enough.

Thanks, Russell. Thanks, Chris. So, if Rob Sheilds' story about it being a member of the public is incorrect, why did you claim to know the name of that person?
"What officers don't know is that I know the name of the member of public"

On the Great North Rd footpaths being resealed - the number I recall is that 15% of the Eden Park crowds are predicted to walk to stadium. 9000 walkers... no toilets... McDs on Great North rd is gonna become really popular

"This incident is the first of its kind that we are aware of..." Really? Heres another example of a mural that Rob Sheilds got painted out... From The Aucklander, August 2009...
http://www.theaucklander.co.nz/local/news/who-decides-what-looks-good/3902993/
And this is one of about 4 murals I've heard of being eradicated by Council. Rob Sheilds has a history of doing this.
Also, the Mayor said that "Council contractors mistakenly painted over this mural after a request by an Auckland Council anti-graffiti volunteer". So it was a complaint from a member of the public, or this anti grafftiti volunteer that resulted in the destruction of Askew's mural? Two different version sof what happened.
Mr Dempsey, could you please check this.

If folks want to show their support for Askew and more lively street art instead of bland grey walls in AKLD, please sign the petition over at Sideroom.com.
http://sideroom.com/magazine/petition-no-more-grey-walls/Thanks for the mention, Russell. Look forward to seeing the show.

Thank you, Graham. It's refreshing to hear about some folk genuinely excited about making music, instead of complaining about not getting grants.
