  • Field Theory: Blue Sky Thinking,

I'd like to call the whole 'boohoo this is unfair' thing on this, because I like the ARC and Jed's a pretty decent dude, but at the same time this is the business world and there were breaches in the copyright law.

Plus I'm annoyed that the ARC was back in town for the last two All Blacks test and didn't hold anything for it, even if it was at the Green Man with its silly laser lights and Gen-Y disco music.

  • Field Theory: Blue Sky Thinking,

No way?! I had no idea such miraculous technology existed - alt commentary in sync on that would be the best.

Yeah, when you watch League commentary on MY SKY you can choose between Gould and the Aussie commentators or McIvor and the Kiwi guys a lot of the time. I'd still use mute.

  • Field Theory: Blue Sky Thinking,

Roy & HG used to do awesome alternative radio commentaries for State of Origin and Grand Final games.
It was very common for people to watch the Channel 9 live-feed with the sound down, and the radio commentary from Roy & HG up loud.
I'd definitely do the same for watching the All Blacks on Sky and hearing Jed's commentary if someone could make it happen.

Jed did used to do the ARC on the radio, before he made it big as a live act. He took over at Radio Active in Wellington from Sparky Plug, who is now the host of a show called Campbell Live on TV3 [you may have heard of it, or seen it]. This explained why they always had such a good rapport I think [and for a while Jed was a regular on Campbell Live doing rugby reviews].

Not to mention that that Graeme Hill used to simulcast rugby test matches on bFM in Auckland.

But thems the blows I guess, now Jed's off to colder, more miserable climes and he's traded in and traded up from Chris Rattue to Stephen Jones.

  • Field Theory: Like a punch in the face,

I started playing rugby as a 6 year-old. Tackle rugby. No one was badly hurt and it was a lot of fun. Rippa rugby it wasn't...

I don't know how many times I've had this argument. Fine, you don't understand why kids don't tackle in union anymore, but they do in league.

The NZRU has a specific development plan for children based on Balyi's theories of development, which is why this policy exists. Go watch a game of Rippa Rugby, as Hadyn and I did recently, and say that the tackling is missing. These kids struggle to even run in the right direction without guidance, so why complicate things?

  • Field Theory: Like a punch in the face,

Cricket is a dead sport. It doesn't know it though. Right now cricket is a shambling corpse, mimicking other, similar sports like some decaying zombie that's trying remember what it was like to be alive.

    Ahh, that's better.

The best thing the Spar of the Century has done for Boxing in NZ is the same thing that the Mahe Drysdale v Rod Waddell row-off last year did for rowing last year - it's peaked interest in the sport.
But Shane Cameron has learnt the thing that most of us knew all through High School - You don't taunt the big Polynesian boys!

  • Field Theory: Good Deeds,

The picture of Truter charging down that ball is absolutely amazing. So clear, and such awesome timing! I'd like to see his son comment here and give some background. :)

  • Field Theory: Three games - two with pictures!,

So one team didn't really show up and it was a bit of a blow-out. And while I loved it (fucking luuurrrved it) it was a wee bit annoying. Were the All Blacks actually better than they were previously?
We kicked less, so that was good. We didn't lose a lineout

It wasn't until lineout I realised you were talking about the rugby and not the gloooourious Saints. Though I wondered why you called them All Blacks, when they have white and gold as well, I wasn't going to argue.

The comment about kids yelling things their parents want to hear, when I used to go to every 'Nix game with a couple of mates, there was a guy who would be in the same area as us every game with his friend and kid. They'd spend the whole game getting drunk and encouraging the lad to yell out vile stuff, one of the things I remember was a chant about turning the ref into a weather vane on a barn [can't remember the lyrics fortunately]. Disgusting!
And Mike's photos make it look like there were actually people at the 'Nix game, kudos to him for that.

I'm starting to think the Bay of Plenty model looks pretty attractive.

Actually he's been our best attacking weapon all season, leading try-scorer I think.
Given how short in supply tries have been, not something you'd want to throw on the bench.

He's also a very, very good tackler.
