Well done that man!! I finally realised that I wasn't that worried about health - one has to die sometime - but the money!! My doctor suggested writing on the kitchen calendar how much I hadn't spent each day on smokes. Astounding!! Every time I see cigarettes at the shop and notice the price I am strengthened in my delight at not supporting the tobacco barons.

Is al Jazeera a forlorn hope down here in Christchurch?

I heard the man from Family First. He was scary. I have no doubt he was smacked when he was a child "and is none the worse for it now". The same may be true of the blogger who knows what Sue Bradley needs.
I smacked my children for disobedience - it was what you did with disobedient children. And oh how I wish I had not. They've grown into great adults, but despite the smacking, not because of it.
Perhaps the bible quoters are thinking of Jesus' words - "Suffer the little children" and getting the word order wrong. -
I watched the Maori TV coverage of Waitangi Day for most of the afternoon. It was great. I learned a lot about Treaty stuff that I didn't know and the information was presented in an interesting and professional way - non-hectoring. Everything looked good, the front man (sorry can't remember his name) was fabulous. The vox pop bits didn't edit out those who didn't think much of Treaty stuff.
Maori TV does a lot of programmes, really well - thanks.
