I'm surprised that they didn't strip them out of this year's competition entirely...
Tend to agree, but if the players didn't know what was going on (a big assumption I know), then it keeps them playing for the rest of the season, and therefore more marketable at the end of the season.
Re the players involvement - they would obviously know what they were being paid, but not necessarily what the other players were being paid. It's conceivable they didn't do the math to figure that the club was possibily over the cap. If they did think that the club was over the cap, what would they do?

from everything I've read about the back-of-the-envelope finger-in-the-wind calculations, they bear no resemblance to reality.
Don't panic, the politicans will just end up as directors of finance companies. Nothing to worry about at all. :-(

stop being so logical Keith - remember that this is politics.
Good post.

Anyone else ever noticed that Craig Parker voices between three to five different commercials at any time?
No, our household uses the mute button every ad-break!

Good luck - I'll be attempting my third half marathon on Sunday. The psychology I used for the 1st one was that I knew I could run as far as the Bridge (my longest training run was only 13k), then I could walk up the Bridge, and then stagger the last few kms. It worked and I made it less than 2 1/2 hrs.
Note that once you come off the Bridge you still have 5+ kms to go - the 16k drink station is close to where you go under the Bridge before Westhaven Marina.

Re the education changes: There seems to be a 'one size fits all' approach being taken here. What I mean by that is that ALL the advisors for science, PE etc. are being dropped, which assumes that ALL schools need the advisors in the 3Rs. One would have thought that a number of schools would have their act together in the 3Rs and are now looking to extend into the other areas.
The Minister also talks about this pool of advisors that they can switch on and off for the different subjects one year to the next. It does beg the question as to what the science advisors will do for the next year. It's highly likely that they will change careers and so won't then be available when the Minister deems they are necessary at some arbitrary point in the future.

My tips from a recent visit:
1. The Queen Vic markets are well worth a visit - we went on a Sunday afternoon and it was very busy, and a great and interesting array of foodstuffs.
2. Coffee or brunch in Delgrave St (a little lane between Flinders Lane and Flinders Street, near Flinders Station) is enjoyable.
3. Len Lye exhibition if it's still on - Exhibition Square
4. Avoid Docklands

Matthew - re your comment way back at 2:25pm - I laughed BECAUSE of the truth in the words.
I thought that Auckland was finally heading towards something that resembled a half decent public transport system, but in the last 12 months it has all been going backwards.
A motorway for weekend travellers to Omaha is absurd when there are so many other transport NEEDS in the region.
I recommend that everyone checks out Joshua Arbury's transport blog. If nothing else, a recent graph there shows how that of you start providing a reasonable level of service, people will use public transport.

I have been known to double-check with the survey caller the length of time that it will take. When the allotted time is up I just say "Well that's the x minutes, bye" and hang-up.
