Carlaw Park - I agree this is the best solution - whether it ever becomes an option is another thing.

It suits the rhetoric of the right to focus on one person as a 'leader'. I'm never sure why people from the left - and especially the organised political opposition - want to buy into that and perpetuate the myth of Key by focusing attention on him.
A focus on leader ship is not the sole preserve of either the left or the right. It suits the political rhetoric of either side of the centre left/right divide that is NZ politics to focus on leadership. Leaders do tend to be the dominant focus in the political process, Y'all remember Helen Clark.
The point of my earlier post was not a focus on Key's leadership but on his stupidity, immaturity and ability to deliver not much.

The failure of the RWC Party Central Opening Party is well covered in recent posts – re the planning, resources and venue.
The problem essentially starts with Key inviting all of Auckland, the rest of NZ and the world to the party of the century and then failing to see that it is delivered.
Like so much of Key's initiatives - they are an ill formed ideas with not much to back it up – other examples are lifting wages to catch up with Australia, the Cycle way, the recovery of the bodies of the Pike River Miners and it goes on and on.
Key spouts laudable goals though his government never produces or implements the strategy to back any of them up – the overriding criticism in “A goal is not a strategy”.
It is likely the only policies that Nats will execute effectively is the sale of state assets, (which is to our long-term detriment) and putting the boot into the poor (the working poor and those on welfare)..
The howling from the Right Wing Media on Monday for Len Browne’s resignation were disgusting – you can imagine how hard this last weekend and early week have been for Len Browne trying to work to solve a problem with a pack of wolves that are vying to slash his throat.
Key will look at his terms as Prime Minster as a growth experience – he has demonstrated to me he lacks the depth of life experience relevant to be PM. He does not grasp what it is like to be someone raising a family on the minimum wage, the grieving family and friends of a Pike River miner, or anyone else who is not a privileged member of the power elite.
When I saw his grinning face walk out to stand alongside the All Blacks for the one minute of silence I wanted to wipe that grin of his face with the back of my hand.
What we are experiencing is the pain of Key growing up in public.
Rather than "the Minister 's Brain has exploded" - it could be "the PM's balls haven't dropped" - his awareness is that of a child..

Perhaps most beloved First Citizen John Key the First and his inner sanctum are realising that Auckland's infrastructure woes can't be fixed by RWC special powers and whatever is done short term won';t solve what is essentially a long term problem.
Hmm, perhaps not.

Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded, in reply to
It's pretty clear now that his stunt on Tuesday is regarded as a brain explosion by even his colleagues.
I would doubt that Murray McCully - Special Envoy for Beloved First Citizen has the initiative or the freedom to exercise a brain explosion - he does what he is told albeit with much devotion.
I think the thrust of all this is an inner sanctum strategic political decision with the most beloved First Citizen John Key the First giving it the green light – the desire for the First Party to be seen as taking control of a situation that was all Len Browne’s fault being the paramount consideration.
Some people saw the massive over play for what it was, and is now being toned down somewhat. Murray McCully - Special Envoy for Beloved First Citizen of the National New Zealand People’s Democratic Republic say sorry to Mayor Browne; we working together all holding hand every people happy now.
All strategic decision made by the most beloved First Citizen John Key the First are essentially fluid and without structure – decisions on “policy” and “direction” are made with an eye on how they are received by the electorate and how they are likely to evolve politically and be viewed by voters this close to the election.
It is noteworthy that the Chch quake inquests, the Pike River inquiry and Terrorism charges are all to a degree packaged away at this time,
What makes me laugh most is that some of the ministerial cars and executive limos couldn't get into Eden Park, they had the wrong stickers, and had to drop their precious cargo a fair distance from the gates where that cargo was left to walk. Classic.common touch.

Unfettered - But of course - such is the nature of random precision.
The Auckland Super City is in fact a giant maximum entropy machine that was activated by the Penguin known as “Happy Feet” who under the guise of visiting Wellington Zoo held secret meetings with the our beloved leader First Citizen John Key the First. Happy Feet handed over the secret manual on how to operate the entropy machine to Key who has passed it onto Murray McCully - Special Envoy for Beloved First Citizen
The problem is that Murray Mcully is reading the manual upside down and that is why the RWC thing hasn’t totally imploded yet – but give him time – he is getting there - some one will walk into his office and turn the manual the right way up, soonish like.
As for Happy Feet he did not become a Happy Meal - he has in fact been beamed back up to his mother ship leaving no trace.
Really the whole thing surrounding this is as stupid as the above – but it is a level of stupidity that I have come to expect from living in Auckland.
As you were.

Local and Central Govt really need to get over themselves – they had four years to do it and couldn’t - I can 't see that having more wharf space, extra buses and another layer of bureaucrats to run around and confuse the shit out everybody in Auckland will do much.
The problem will save itself by the people of Auckland organising themselves in spite of the costly best efforts of Local and Central Govt – we took them at their collective word first - not again.
Outside of Auckland peoiple seem to have got onto it and done it well without the psychodrama and bullshit that is so Auckland and so Wellington.
