  • Capture: Howling at the Moon, in reply to JacksonP,

One thing that was abundantly clear from the other side of the lens is that come June, unless someone does something sensible, New Zealand is losing one of the best current affairs crews operating anyway.

And they didn’t even have to pay me to say that.

Cheers Russell, Sarah, Sacha and everyone else. Like flying first class.

Awww … what I would say is that our show has a culture. I’m pretty emphatic about welcoming guests (and friends) and I think the experience of appearing on Media7 is different to most current affairs shows. It was good this week to see Native Affairs has its own style too – you’re pretty much ordered avail yourself of the kai there.

Sarah’s a bit of a secret weapon for us too. She does the pre-interviews and she’s very good at getting people to talk to her. And of course, once they’ve said it to her, they can say it to me :-)

PS: For me, Sarah, Sam and Jose, Media7 is our first TV show. So we've had to find our own ways of making it and I think that's had quite a bearing on what we do.

I'd pick West Lynn Organic Meats over the Westmere Butchery every time, better quality, especially in the chicken department (I'm scared of all those antibiotics and hormones in non organic chicken products).

There are no hormones used in New Zealand chicken. Factory chicken will almost always have been treated with antibiotics (which promote growth), and some free-range too -- but Westmere declare theirs is antibiotic free. I do find $25 for an actual organic chook a bit steep most days.

Ponsonby And Mt Eden Nosh is also very good,

I hear good things about the Mt Eden one, but I think Nosh Ponsonby is badly let down by its fresh produce, which is expensive, limited in range and sometimes of poor quality. It's partly a function of the limited space available on the site, but it's an issue.

and I thought, “Keep that store open! Cos when we get back (and Auckland is our destination of choice) then we’re going to need Chinese products!”

Oh Chris, you have no cause for concern on that score at all. Chinese supermarkets abound in Auckland.

There's a reason you and everyone else in the inner western burbs hits the Westmere Butchery. And it's not that it's trendy. It's really really good. And if you talk to the butchers in there, they know how to cook meat as well.

Word. I've had good advice more than once. I also find they're keen to know when something worked for me.

Lastly, very recently opened is Hopscotch Beer Co in Eden Tce, who have a dozen different craft beers on tap to fill your flagons from. $10/L for NZ, $15/L for imports. Yum, and amazing value.

Went there for the first time recently. Won't be the last.

And not before time too. If this was America, the anti-trust regulators would be whipping out their chainsaws.

If this was America, this sort of carry-on would have been halted long ago, on pain of criminal charges.

  • Hard News: Disrupting the Television, in reply to Paul Rowe,

I tried to love it, really tried, but in the end decided it was a soap opera in animal furs (the book was unreadable).

I don't get it either. Or, at least, why people are so excited about it.

Please remember there are actual people in this discussion who fit that categorisation, and are understandably likely to take such statements as personal attacks. Not helpful.

Quite. I'd ask everyone to relax a bit, please. Challenge ideas rather than attacking people.
