3410 you are a moron and a coward hiding behind a synonym.
Gudrun, I know you've apologised somewhat, but this was really unacceptable. Please don't do this sort of thing again.

Hard News: Killing Volume, in reply to
And what happened with that Homebrew Volume video today? I saw some tweets about someone at the Herald getting fired for being in it? I want to see it!
For comedic purposes in the video, Tom opened a NSFW website on an editorial computer. It was momentary and you couldn't really see the screen, but someone in HR found out days after the video went up, freaked out and threatened a longtime editorial staff member, a good guy, with dismissal. Then they started freaking out about the contents of the final issue and it appeared that it might be pulped and never distributed.
A few wiser heads -- think high-up at the Herald -- seem to have succeeded in calming things down and the Home Brew "takeover" issue (which is very funny) did reach the streets, if a little late.
A lot of people at APN at very jumpy at the moment because the company is looking at divesting some of its NZ assets -- and that may have had an impact on the timing of the Volume closure. On the other hand, I get the impression that people there have been very surprised to discover how strong a brand Volume had established in less than a year. APN really should have done a lot better with what it had there.

Aaron Bhatnagar?
I am surprised his name hasn't come up more often, given his past escapades.

You know that once the engineers were allowed to talk to each other about this the guts of the technical solution was literally sketched out on some bits of A4 in about half an hour?
To hard my arse.
Heh. When I was at Computerworld in the 90s, I had a Telecom person explain it to me as something akin to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.

Legal Beagle: The law may be that stupid, in reply to
Because the Government is responsible to the House for the conduct of government. And something John Banks did while he was a private citizen, and not a minister or even member of parliament is not something the PM has to answer to the House for.
Was Banks, as Mayor of Auckland City, a private citizen, though? Not that that affects your point.

Indeed. If Shearer remains leader, Cunliffe would be the perfect foil for Prostetnic Vogon Joyce and Bulldozer Brownlee. Especially given the work he did on local loop unbundling.
Which is undoubtedly going to have to be done all over again in the broadcast and telecommunications sector. The parallels between Sky and Telecom in the 1990s are inescapable.
But it wasn't just local loop unbundling. Cunliffe's telecommunications reform expedited things like number portability, which had been dismissed as too hard for, like, a decade.

However, it’s a huge shame that Shearer et al haven’t done the same in return, and kept David Cunliffe on as Finance spokesperson.
I agree. Although, again, the big policy fiefdom would have made just as much sense. I'm not sure if Cunliffe is wandering off his turf already by talking about regulatory reform. Not that that's a bad thing. At all.

David Cunliffe is very, very intelligent, and he doesn’t downplay it, or pretend that he’s not smart. I think that some plonkers in the Labour caucus can’t cope with that. I think it’s part of NZ’s pervasive anti-intellectualism. We should get over it.
Alternatively, the explanation -- and it seems much more likely -- is that he does indeed have a weakness in relationships with his colleagues. Pretty much the definition of leadership is to be able to take people with you, and if he can't do that it weakens his claim on a leadership role.

Further thanks to you Russell!
Ordering apopo-I'm delighted I was able to help.
I recalled Amplifier announcing recently they were to start rolling out the Ode catalogue, so I looked there and - bingo!

Are we talking Robin Morrison, Jos?
I was lucky enough to share time, and a book project, with him- I’d be delighted to be able to buy this CD – cheers!Blues for Robin is for sale on Amplifier, as either a download or a CD.
Amplifier has been steadily making available the Ode catalogue -- which includes many records that pretty much disappeared on release. This is a good thing.
