Hmmmm, just because you download and have a play with Neo Office and find that it 'works just fine', it's a bit of a leap to then pronounce it completely suitable for the enterprise.
Here's 3 things to ponder about Microsoft.
1. Version Control
You can hiss and whinge as much as you like but they do it better than anybody outside of IBM. Considering the user base and the breadth of applications it is superb, especially over the last 4-5 years since Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) was implemented.2. Excel Spreadsheet
Still the key financial mgt application at most med-large enterprises. Yes, we've known about BI, data warehousing, EIS, business analysis reporting and dashboarding for a long long time. Yet it's mainly still done in this application. Ask any accounting of finance manager in a large corporate. Trying to convert these, usually, large, complex and hugely important documents out of MS Office and into Open Office is not something I would like to contemplate.3. Home users
Yep, the people still rule, thankfully. And as long as they're using Windows and Office at home, we'll still be using it in the work place. When PC's start offering multiple OS options *and* the majority of punters start opting for Ubuntu and Open Office over MS alternatives, then you'll see change at work. Until then, no show.We use a mix of Linux and Windows here at work. I use Ubuntu at home. I consider myself fairly techno agnostic. But Open Source is miles away from being the desktop environment of choice for ordinary users in the workplace.

23 days of solitude? Man I dream about that sort of thing.

the number of women's profiles that made it a point to state that they weren't interested in would-be suitors who sent pictures of their knobs to prospective paramours.
And they say romance is dead...

Trent Reznor speaks
Interesting interview. The fact he downloads illegally himself while knowing better than most how this hurts artists sums up the dilemma rather nicely.
If more artists can come off record company contracts and start releasing new material at a fraction of the cost of their company owned back catalogue that could start to create some nice pressure on the online stores and record companies to drop the price.
It would be highly interesting to see how $4 high-bitrate new release albums would sell alongside hardcopies and illegal copies. How about $2 albums? Or make a donation and it's yours... Radical stuff.

I'm 34 and I still don't have my licence. I turned out fine, never hurt me any!
Get on it Heather, someone has to start the Grrrl Racer problem!

blaming these kids for the things they get up to, because what they're doing is what the grownups do. drink, drug, fuck, fight, and drive like a fucking arsehole.
I'm ashamed to say that I read this and my first reaction was to get a little depressed about my lack of social life.

I'm telling myself that the Super 14 doesn't matter and it's really just like the Aussies dropping their guard before the Cricket World Cup - only to become unbeatable when it counted. I'm sticking with that.
Well I'm not sure that comparison completely works. The Aussie cricketers got white-washed by our guys and as a form guide it proved meaningless. In the S14 the Blues were right in there going into the last few minutes. That game could properly have gone either way. The SAF'ers really lifted themselves in the final couple of weeks and apart from that I think NZ could quite easily have hosted both semi's again this year.
The Crusaders have always relied on the canniest set of forwards in the comp to see them through. That has started to unravel a bit this year. Not a huge worry in my books though as there's plenty of big iron available across the other NZ teams.
Probably one of the more interesting team selections today though. The team has practically picked itself the last 2 years.

Man, I thought this post was going to be about Gregory Isaacs!

I think that Westham followers should be used to this sort of thing eg. having to beat the league leaders to avoid relegation, and then doing it. But it still has filled me with wonder and reminded me of why it's called the beautiful game.
And if Carlos has played his last game us, cheers mate, you're a stone cold Hammers legend now! Thanks for the memories.
