Someone campaigning for John Boscawen is driving around our residential neighbourhood with a very loud loudspeaker telling everyone how "strong" and "effective" he'd be as the member for Mt Albert.

I remember Richard Worth did that along Broadway in Newmarket one weekend back when he had Epsom. At least it wasn't a residential area. He singled people out on the footpath (by loudspeaker).

  • Field Theory: Kicking the underdog,

My Sunday sport watching was going to see the Warriors get over Wests Tigers 14-0 at Mt Smart. Bit on the wet and freezing side though. Must have gloves next time.

However, a bit of a brickbat to Veolia Transport with the trains/rail buses. I take the trains to and from the games at Mt Smart from the city. The Penrose station is only 5-10 minutes walk from Mt Smart, so very handy. They have a couple of trains on afterwards going back to Britomart which tend to be packed. A good service.

Unfortunately this weekend the train line was closed. OK, I can live with that. There were replacement rail buses that went from Britomart to Penrose station. Also good. But then this pearler from the Veolia info website:

    Connexauckland.co.nz

Due to the Block of Lines on Queen’s Birthday weekend there will be no additional services for the Warriors v West Tigers game at Mt Smart on Sunday 31 May.

That seemed to mean there would be ONE replacement bus from Penrose Station immediately after the game at 5.47, one at 6.47, 7.47 etc. Thankfully I was able to catch a ride back to town with friends who were also at the game once I realised that. I didn't fancy freezing waiting to get on the one bus that might have left by the time I could get out of the stadium. Or waiting another hour or so to try and get on that bus...

Presumably most of the other 15.634 who attended the game also went home by car.

  • OnPoint: Being a dick about Earth Hour,

Sorry. Missed the quotation marks. I meant:

    "Incandescent Rage".

In case anyone thought I was referring to the posters themselves...

While I'm being a dick about this, I should also address the people who are opposing Earth Hour by joining "Edison Hour", which encourages participants to "use as much power and energy as possible in order to celebrate the advancement of mankind."
    Please, learn some fucking science.

  • Hard News: Away for the Weekend,

At such time as the copyright issues get resolved. Meaning, sometime between never and in a far-off distant future. Not that I'm cynical about the major TV labels and their negotiations or anything

Sigh, yes, I was afraid of that. And the tv labels wonder about why legitimate ways to view shows are circumvented? Perhaps because for some of us there aren't any legitimate ways if you are not stateside. Or yes, you wait goodness knows how long before it turns up here. Maybe the delay is not as bad as it used to be, but a delay all the same. If it does turn up, that is, and is not buried somewhere...Bah.

But did I hear right, they're ALIENS! Why are you all laughing?! He said they're gonna eat our brains! Right on the TV!

What I want to know is...when is the rest of the world going to get access to hulu. Or amazon video on demand. Or shows via the local itunes??? Legitimately, that is. Why can't we have the chance to have our brains eaten as well?

"people who write erotic versions of Star Trek where all the characters are Furries and put a Furry version of themselves as the star of the story'

I know you are supposed to learn something new every day, but does this apply even when you don't want to? And quite possibly wish you hadn't?

  • Obamania, For Real,

So where the Bush people. As soon as he was inaugurated they proceeded to delete all of the Clinton records on the whitehouse.gov website, without so much as a backup.

I wondered. Should Presidential libraries include archived versions of their administration's webpages or some version of them? Or do they do that already? Surely that is part of the record? Or is it left to the internet archive to do?

The BBC mentioned that when George W. Bush came in the Clinton staffers had removed all the "W" keys from the White House computer keyboards.

  • Obamania, For Real,

I mucked up the time and woke at 2.30am, turned on the TV to BBC coverage (via TV1). Just a bit early for the main event. At some point there was snark for the main BBC reporter when he interviewed British Foreign Secretary David Miliband. They crossed to Miliband just as the reporter began to go into some depth as to how the luncheon utensils were to be replicas of Lincoln's luncheon utensils. "I'm here to rescue you from the cliches" remarked Miliband.
