It will be interesting to watch whether the Opposition is able to effectively criticice the performance of these SOEs without besmirching Cullen's good name. So potentially a master stroke by the evil genius Key.
There was never going to be too much for the Labour party to attack in Post though. Unless they're going to sell it I suppose!
But looks like Bolger will move on to something else (wonder what?) and Cullen will then get Chair of Post. I presume that the Post board elects the Kiwibank board and voila. -
In which case, all your base are belong to Cullen?

I can usually see the (twisted) logic that DPF uses over at Kiwiblog, but simply don't get the outrage over this? (I am course referring only to the relatively reasoned DPF rather than the nutjobs he attracts)

Good position for him. Officially only Deputy Chair for now, but presume Bolger will be off to something else shortly...

Be good to have more like this from Nandor you mean?
Nandor has promoted a Sustainable/Unsustainable positioning instead of Left/Right for a while now. It would make the Green's a much more realistic proposition I think.
Shame they lost him. -
It's frankly absurd to think it's KEY that's taking National to defeat. He's probably the only bright light they have - it's his older Ministers that may take them to defeat if they gain true control of the policy agenda.

I sincerely hope Mr Key begins to increase his influence - I'm now of the opinion that part of the deal to make him leader so quickly was that your Ryalls/Collins/Smiths/Brownlees got to push through their back-to-the-90s policies that they've been dying to reintroduce for the last 9 years.
I'm giving Key the benefit of the doubt in that he truly is more forward looking and those policies aren't his nature. If he can continue to command stratospheric poll ratings and let those Ministers a) blow off steam (not to belittle the damage they're doing) and b) continue to screw up then I hope the smiling assassin really does emerge and he takes control of the party in a way I don't think he yet has. -
Matthew, I'm certainly not proposing that North Harbour is preferrable to Mt Smart. Simply that if Mt Smart was removed it wouldn't be as horribly awful as some believe. Although putting the Warriors there would be... absurd? death knell? pointless?
This is partly an overhang from the RWC discussions when I heard the North Harbour Stadium CEO give a very good dissection of why they were a good contender. Not strong enough for me to prefer it over Carlaw/waterfront/hell-even-Eden Park but he made me realise it's quite doable. Twickenham ain't exactly central and accessible for example.

No, I mean the Harbour Bridge, funnily enough.
Christ, like pulling teeth...
The bridge itself isn't the issue most people make it to be - it's huge and just another piece of motorway. And while it's a single chokepoint for those coming from the South or East, the pretty large population in the North and West are either already there or can access via the Upper Harbour Highway. I would wager that a pretty good percentage of BDOers are already coming on motorways through Spaghetti Junction from either the west or north to get to Mt Smart.
I just don't believe that getting to the North Shore is the traffic abomination most people make it out to be, although admittedly this arose as a train of thought for me re RWC stadium discussions and is partly dependent on some investment in the busway etc.

crossing the Harbour Bridge.
You mean that up-to-5-lane, largest piece of motorway we have?
