OnPoint: What Andrew Geddis Said, But…, in reply to
genuine conservatives who vote National would find this stuff troubling
Yes. I’ll be writing to my MP (Amy Adams, who is/was a lawyer) to ask for an explanation.
But. Chris Findlayson, for example, seems to have ‘found it troubling’. He concludes this limitation of rights is unjustified… However it would seem he has voted for it anyway.
How does that work? I’m not relaxed about it. -
Too much 'urgency' in this govt; not enough solid well-thought-out legislation.
Wondering what Graeme makes of this Geddis column on legislation regarding payment for looking after disabled relatives? It may effect a lot of us, and it seems just- shoddy. -
OnPoint: Budget 2013: Bringing Down the…, in reply to
hordes of very highly educated youngsters being unable to find work, unable to pay back any debt, flooding out to wherever there is work
This isn't already happening? The unemployed PhD is a fairly new but all-too-common thing, I fear :(

if National doesn’t either
That's the weasel escaping from Collin's lips, without her ever actually saying it :)

It's not a good budget for tertiary ed. We knew Teh Minister didn't like us much. But not how much :(

That's incredibly generous!
I might suggest starting a pledge-me campaign- a few of us would be keen I think :) But just talked to the archivist at McMillan-Brown and she needs to check the original 'deed of gift' to see what we're allowed to do. -

Damn, missed it.
I’m trying to organise restoration of a 16mm print of a 30 minute recruitment film made for the university in 1964. Aimed at British and US academics, it covers more than the university, looking at Chch life generally: beaches, shopping, schools – and cheerfully extolling the likes of school dental clinics!
$400-500 seems a bargain to get a great (optical scanning of each frame, plus an audio run, 10 bit 4:2:2 digital) copy, but alas, $ are hard to find…
If we can get it on youtube will be sure to post it here. -
Hard News: Media3: Parliament Live, in reply to
About 3pm, after Question Time.
Thanks :) Nothing yet, must turn twitter on… since it’s afternoon tea time :)
Oops, blinked and missed it! Oh well... -

at least they would have been required to answer for themselves in an open court. It would certainly have been more in the public interest than some of the *cough* injudicious and sometimes downright defamatory conspiracy theories going round from all sides.
Agreed! Non-partisan courts are an invaluable blessing we take for granted.
