  • Hard News: Friday Music: An Outstanding Evening,

Hi first time poster. I was born in '72 and DD is honestly the soundtrack to my life so far. Starting school was Be Mine Tonight, standard two was The Devil You Know, intermediate was always Magic What She Do, starting high school was Slice of Heaven, School "C" was Loyal, finishing at uni was "Maybe The Rain". My beautiful wife walked down the aisle to "Beside You". Seriously, a true legend. Thanks Dave.

  • Hard News: How I love the ladies ...,

I don't know if there are any cricket fans here but (without even having seen it) I recommend watching "Tangiwai A Love Story" on TV1 on Sunday at 8.30. I grew up with the tale of the Tangiwai disaster and the poignant events happening on the field at Ellis Park with Sutcliffe, Blair et al. The tale of what happened still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.

  • Hard News: London's Burning,

I think you might be drawing a long bow re apportioning blame on Piggy for the Queen Street riot. As I recall (in blunt terms) it was hot, many people were pissed (exacerbated by the heat), the police were being arseholes and DD was being a smart arse. Also Lange had already been PM for 5 months by that stage.

  • Hard News: Fixing Auckland,

While we are (sort of) on the topic of the RWC - it is my possibly futile wish that the general public (fans or otherwise) welcome our overseas visitors and that churlish comments about how poor other teams/countries are or how great the "mighty" ABs are might be kept to a minimum. I am a mildly enthusiastic ABs supporter but the sheer lack of class some of our fans show does make me cringe. Wouldn't it be great to have the overseas visitors hop back on their planes with nothing but good memories?

  • Hard News: Essay Question,

Discuss in 500 words or less the poster's rationale for putting forward this question without mentioning his own pro-Labour bias. You have 30 minutes starting now. Eyes down please.

  • Hard News: Punk'd?,

Or to put it another way:
It is a little ironic that some of the people most up in arms over Ian Wishart's despicable book about Helen Clark's supposed secret life are this morning quite happy about the "smearing" of John Key.

  • Hard News: Poll Crunch,

Once in a while The Standard can have some genuinely informative postings. It would be nice though if they had more of that than the sometimes quite offensive hysterical writing they are prone to. Sort of like Fox News in reverse.

  • Hard News: This whole, glorious trainwreck,

The "Whaleoil" post - who cares Russell? What was the point of even referring to it? It is just not important and I would have thought someone of your calibre would not waste typing about such an irrelevant weird blogger. Are we now going to get you quoting some of Martyn Bradbury's bizarre conspiracy theories on quiet days? My God, there is just so much more important things happening to blog about.

  • Random Play: Carter The Unstoppable Dick…,

My appalling grammar - the copper. Carter's fairly "on to it" (having had a comfortable majority since 1987)

Knowing the particular copper who stopped him, I wouldn't consider him to be that politically aware
