If you haven't already caught up with it, here's the first public track from a new project Joel has been producing. It's very, very good
That Broods song was played on BBC Radio 1 today, which is, y'know, pretty major.

You are so first with the news.

Mark,
Hi first time poster. I was born in '72 and DD is honestly the soundtrack to my life so far. Starting school was Be Mine Tonight, standard two was The Devil You Know, intermediate was always Magic What She Do, starting high school was Slice of Heaven, School "C" was Loyal, finishing at uni was "Maybe The Rain". My beautiful wife walked down the aisle to "Beside You". Seriously, a true legend. Thanks Dave.

I was quietly quite stoked to see "Royals" win, I thought it was really deserved on its own merit.
The thing that really strikes me more than anything is how incredibly broad Lorde's appeal is. You only have to whack "Lorde" into search on twitter to see tweets from 13 year old girls along the lines of (to generalise): "omg my dad like totally loves lorde too like wtf idk" .
This struck me today when I visited my 72 year old nana, who out of the blue proclaimed how much she likes Lorde's songs. My Nana for gods sake, who sticks primarily to Neil Diamond, Abba and The Carpenters. Not many songs or artists have that kind of power, at least that I'm aware.

No, because you don't pronounce those as "us" and "uke". You speak the individual letters, therefore "UK" and "US" are still appropriate. And even that's comparatively recent usage. Remember when it was U.S.A.?
All caps these days pretty much implies each letter is pronounced separately. And yes, of course there are variations to the "rule". It's English after all, and names for things, so if you want to style yourself as MARTIN, pronounced "Martin", fine by me. :-)

WINZ seems to be an exception. My memory may be wrong but I always see that spelled in all caps yet pronounced as one word. In most other situations the rule seems to apply. Maybe that's just an exception that makes the rule :)

If you're a fan of @Peace & El Truento, New York hiphop DJ Oddisee's "Beauty in All/Tangible Dream" double album is gorgeous and great value over at Bandcamp
(Hat tip to Martyn Pepperell for that one)

Hi Russ.
Was thinking while reading the post 'wouldn't it be cool if we could aggregate the tracks and listen to them all as a playlist.'
Turns out, for the most part, you can. Discovered this thing called MiniLogs.
Here's the playlist from the post, which took a couple of minutes to make. It also allows you to use iframe embeds. You can include Youtube, Vimeo and Soundcloud, plus many others I didn't really look into.
Anyway, just thought might come in handy.

My mum - who is also 72 - told me the other day that she'd listened to "Royals" and rather liked it. In fact, she listened to it, read the lyrics, then listened again - which makes me certain that my music nerditry is hereditary.

Quite. I guess the rule for me is what do they call themselves and I’m wary of letting grammar rules override that. In the case of APRA they pretty much universally call themselves that so …
Another is the use of “the” with a band. Strict style rules tells us that The Beatles should be entered as the Beatles and The Who as the Who (let’s not even start with The The) but in each case that wasn’t the name they gave themselves. I note that both The Times (or is it the Times) and t/The NYT are increasingly relaxed about this with The Beatles now having the edge at t/The Guardian.

Wasn't it about 2am? I think you can forgiven for heading homewards at such an hour. I am always so much more inclined to party when in Auckland.
..VNZMA technical awards next week...big awards a month after that...I think I need a new suit.

This won’t be the last we hear of Joel Little either. If you haven’t already caught up with it, here’s the first public track from a new project Joel has been producing.
What really hit me on the APRA/Apra night was – hearing Royals for the very first time on a system like that – the perfect almost subsonic sparsity of the production. On a radio or even a home stereo you get some of that but on the big Vector system the vocal was laid over a crafted rumble. It was intense and quite something.
I’m thrilled to see Joel get his moment here, and I suspect there will be quite a few more. As with New Zealand’s last US number one, the producer is absolutely key to this record, perhaps the key factor.

Ok, I just cried a river (and danced a bit too) to that clip of "In The Neighbourhood."
Sounds like home. Wherever I am. And for the first time in so many years.

Hey, this is a brilliant, surprising feast of soul, hip hop reggae and other stuff. Just love it:

Speaking of awards, Pure Heroine was released in America on 30 September - which was also the eligibility deadline for the 2014 Grammys...

He speaks of his Saviour as someone you wouldn’t mind meeting.
If talking was all that was required, we'd all be converted by now haha!
But alas, some of us just hear those voices for what they are, and dont tack a name to it.
I don't doubt a person lived, on whom a lot of the stories are based. But fiction took over a long time ago. And the oldest gospel Mark has an 18 year gap in the "Saviour's" life. And I bet he wasn't serving out his carpentry apprenticeship, more like travelling the spice routes. But ho hum!he went the long way there :-)
Introspection needs a guide otherwise you just come to the wrong end result.
Not lying to yourself is hard to do. His brother, when I meet him in Kiribati and had a few discussions with, is a lovely fellow. But seriously wrong about his jesus too. -
Late to this thread, but may I offer my most heartfelt congrats to Godfrey who was an amazing MD. I'm biased, cause I love that guy like brother, but it was my fav Silver Scrolls I've ever been a part of (I only get to go to these types of things when I play)!
And another hoghlight was that Sam noticed my new shirt. Shot, bro.
