Nora I second you on The Men, they were my highlight of the afternoon, the difference between cd and live was ace -and they clearly loved playing their rock in the sun, plus Pink Frost sent (ahem) chills down my spine. But kids with phones.... There I was leaving AltJ (because they sounded exactly like the cd) got there early for Japandroids and as soon as they played the first lick got shoved outta the way by a group of kids with earplugs and cellphones. And it kinda struck me, if you're not at Laneways to hear it properly and you only want to view secondhand, why come to Laneways at all? Other than that 8/10

I'd imagine they'd be more than slightly miffed. -
Being able to interrupt your subject and get the conversation where you need it to go -- ideally, without appearing rude -- is a core skill of broadcast interviewing, for sure.
Or indeed, appearing nude.

Friday's Malkmus gig was just the latest in a string of shows which take advantage of the fact that the fire limit includes the garden bar's space, which is hardly used when an international (or big local) artist is playing. Something needs to be done, because it's not right to charge people for entry to show and provide that level of comfort and service.
I couldn't agree more! Chums had to leave The National gig last year for fear of being crushed...
It worked out ok for Beirut though as they did an encore out in the garden for those still hanging around, but generally I gotta say, DON'T OVERSELL THE KING'S ARMS!
