Not the best thing I've read about Lorde by any stretch of the imagination. Alfred is way too cool and hedging his bets.
There's plenty of reviews to choose from on Metacritic, the joy is that most are simply great reviews that have thought long and hard about what she's done here and appreciated it for what it is.
A joy to listen to as well as a joy to process on a lyrical level.....that's a rare gig to pull off.
The absolute best thing I've listened to on the process has to be this. Lorde in her own words. You really get a sense of how smart she is.Worth dedicating a spare hour to.

It's not just that the reviews are extraordinary, it's the quality of the reviews I'm finding most interesting. They really 'get' Lorde and are engaging with her on her terms. Whether it's a commercial success at this stage pretty much irrelevant. The triumph is all hers.

Pretty sure it was Millie Small at the Whangarei Town Hall with my gran. Solo was Four Tops at the Auckland Town Hall in my 1st year at university.
Memorable gigs following were the Stones at Western Springs 1973. Led Zep around the same time and Elton John's 1st NZ performance with a 3 piece circa Tumbleweed Connection before my mum and sisters discovered him and he lost all credibility!
Last gig for me was Steely Dan doing Aja and assorted hits at the Beacon Theatre in New York about a month ago. Brilliant beyond belief but some treasured gigs in kiwiland for sure not the least of which was U2 at Mt Smart 2006.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Kanye. Definitely album of the year for me. The one two knockout closing punch of Bon Iver and Gil Scott Heron the most audacious musical moment of 2010 for sure!
Arcade Fire a joy as well, High Violet rounding out my top 3.
