  • Hard News: A Real Alternative,

My mother had Herb Green as her doctor at National Womens and was always very positive about him. Mum was a nurse, and has always held him in high regard. She thought he was unfairly treated.
She's been pleased to see the Listener article.

But this is obviously anecdotal evidence.

My post was in response to Lucy's. I see something else got in between..

  • Hard News: Food and drink,

I've made samosas too, but I don't know that they were better than the small ones for $1 from Shubh, so why would you bother?

I've also made Chinese dumplings, they seem like a lot of work too when you can get them for cheap at the Asian Supermarkets.

We're so lucky in this part of Auckland with all of the lovely new NZers who've added to our diet.

    @ Sofie
I think Khyber - which was Khyber Spice Invaders, is now called Shubh. Their Eggplant Curry is the best, but it's not often available. I'd send that to Islander when it is there. I think they're going to expand into the empty Real Estate place. A much better use for retail space.

Sofie - also in Sandringham, Taste of Fiji has Fish Roti Rolls for $2.50. Really good cheap convenience food.

Cedars on Dominion Rd has very nice Lebanese take away food, and their flat bread is very good value.

  • Up Front: Romeo Smells of Roses,

Great Post Emma. Brings to mind my dislike of honorifics. I've never really felt comfortable with any they try to label me with so just try to avoid them..

  • Up Front: Also, The Rain Isn't Gone,

I had numerous visits to have my eyes tested as a child. I had a squint and had two operations. I enjoyed the testing, but didn't like having to wear a patch over one eye - the plaster was sticky, so I was always peeling it back.

At 6 My mother thought I'd need glasses so had done a great job on preparing me for them, only to have me very upset when they were not required.

My two sons are myopic and I was pleased that the Optometry Clinic students at the U of A were so understanding and helpful in the transition to glasses. The number one son said it was like going from an impressionist scene to a realist one.

  • Hard News: Of Monsters and Old Boys,

I felt our education system could be at risk with a National government. New Zealand is one of the few countries where by and large your children can get a good education at their local school.

It is something we should be proud of, and not put at risk by elite schools being able to cherry pick the brightest and best from their own communities.

  • Hard News: The Cullen investment,

who else would be likely to win? It seems as though we are destined to get local politicians with no vision. At least there were beacons of hope in our sister cities of Waitakere and Manukau, and under Mike Lee's stewardship the ARC too.

    It is very depressing

Imagine John Banks with executive powers, and then tell me it's not a nightmare.
