  • Hard News: Some reprehensible bullshit, in reply to Jim Cathcart,

"Why would the Herald publish a beat up"

Because, I suspect, there are those in the journalist pool who would really like to create New Zealand's version of the Fox News Network.

  • Hard News: Some reprehensible bullshit, in reply to Hilary Stace,

And I'm in a bar in Queenstown where the door to the bathrooms and the adjacent wall are covered in wallpaper depicting shelves full of books. Apparently this is not an uncommon theme in NZ interior design.

  • Hard News: The sole party of government,

As Chris points out we also now have to consider the NSA/GCSB.

I'm not sure I would feel comfortable voting online for a party that had promised to reign in the GCSB knowing that my online activity was being observed and recorded by said GCSB.

  • Hard News: The sole party of government, in reply to Alfie,

But using RealMe would get around that issue, wouldn't it?

Is RealMe sophisticated enough to identify the actual person logged on and using the computer?

eg. What would prevent the dominant male in a household taking his wife and kids voting IDs and doing all the voting himself?

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

if Kim's actually got hard evidence

and if he is signalling well ahead of time that he plans to release it with the clear intent of damaging the legitimate government of the day and also affecting the outcome of an election then isn't he skating perilously close to the old idea of sedition?

Could this not backfire spectacularly with another visit from large gentlemen in dark glasses coming to take him away for threatening the security of the state?

  • Hard News: What rules are these?, in reply to Simon Chamberlain,

Absolutely. I don't care what he may be required to do in pursuit of his profession; he is a middle aged man and she is a teenage girl.

In what world can that not be creepy?

  • Hard News: The sphere of influence, in reply to bob daktari,

What National MPs seem to miss is govt isn't a business

Unfortunately the top floor of the Beehive is currently occupied by a money manager on temporary leave from Wall St.

It shouldn't be at all surprising that he and his Cabinet will wish to govern in accordance with established corporate boardroom practice.

I can't decide who's being played here, Key or us

    Sadly, it's almost certainly both

  • Hard News: The Mayor's marginal enemies,

Auckland has some of the most unaffordable residential property in the world

But you cannot be seriously suggesting that is the fault of the Mayor?

    weak and expensive public transport

And he is having to deal with a central government which holds the purse strings and also has an irrational hostility towards necessary, major public transport initiatives.
