  • Craig Ranapia, in reply to Sacha,

When the messenger is talking a load of crap, it's also entirely appropriate. Perhaps we can leave the New Zealand Police Force to make their own assessment of what constitutes an appropriate use of their time?

  • Gareth Ward, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

Whatever you think the merits of the complaint are (I'd say the general consensus around here is "invisible to the naked eye"), were the Police supposed to just tell Key to piss off? Really?

What a strange reading - I read that as a jab at Key for the intiating act of referring it, not the Police for then following up.

No, Goff could have just said “this is a side-show and I’d rather talk about Real Issues that affect Hardworking Ordinary New Zealanders” and not doing exactly what he claims Key is doing. But I guess that would require some good judgement and strategic nous; two qualities I’ve seen precious little evidence of from that quarter.

  • Sacha, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

I was talking about Joyce and co having a crack at te evil media to distract from the substance, but I can't disagree about strategic nous on the other hand.

Imagine if the creatives who delivered Labour's campaign opening had more say in their whole campaign.

That might be a little unfair, what about this as an alternative. Asset sales are a key part of Labour's alternative to National. ACT have made clear they'd prefer to sell them all or at least more of them and faster than Key has indicated. ACT's support for National is critical to their electoral chances. Enquiring as to what National and ACT might have agreed regarding this or other matters is a legitimate issue to be exposed to the public.

JK: Hello, Don. Do you read me, Don?
DB: Affirmative, John. I read you.
JK: Give me supply and confidence, Don.
DB: I'm sorry, John. I'm afraid I can't do that.
    JK: What's the problem?
DB: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
JK: What are you talking about, Don?
DB: This project is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
JK: I don't know what you're talking about, Don.
DB: I know that you and John were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
JK: Where the hell did you get that idea, Don?
DB: John, although you took very thorough precautions in the cafe against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
JK: Alright, Don. I'll go into coalition with the other minor parties.
DB: Without Epsom for ACT, John? You're going to find that rather difficult.

  • Sacha,

    Journos call bluff.

A lawyer representing victims of the News of the World phone hacking scandal has weighed into New Zealand’s ‘teapot tape’ debate, defending the secret recording as “good journalism”

    ...

He says Mr Key’s comparison to News of the World tactics was a “cheap shot” with little relevance to the British scandal.

  • Ross Mason,

Let me get this straight. If you are within earshot of a conversation between two people and you have your recorder going it is OK to publish what Bill English said to the other guy. But if you move - still in direct view - but with a "cone of silence" over the two parties, it is not alright......

Publish. Any hearing will be well after the election and there is no way the HOS would be closed down.......right?

But then again, it might be a godsend to ACT if it comes out. If disgruntled ACT members got the message that Don Boy was to be given the biff, then ACT might get that surge they are desperate for.......oh the rock and the hard place..

  • Ross Mason,

Ah yes........how cute.....from Gordon Campbell Scoop

In which case (a) don’t whine about it afterwards and (b) don’t call in the Police to threaten the media into silence. That’s a really bad look. Especially for a government that only a couple of months ago was seeking to rush through legislation to drastically extend the power of state agencies to carry out covert surveillance of private conversations on private property.

At the risk of doubling up, Gavin Ellis's commentary on Nine to Noon is interesting particularly insofar as Ellis says the Herald should not publish.

  • Craig Ranapia,

And just when you think today’s three-ring gimp show can’t get any worse… Stuff runs a hit job on Bradley Ambrose – and I’m sure it’s pure coincidence that APN is Fairfax New Zealand’s direct competitor in the Sunday weekly market. (And before anyone starts waxing conspiratorial, I do not feel the presence of Darth Joyce. Smells like a good old-fashioned media sledge-fight to me. Ambrose was just unlucky enough to be a good hook.)

  • DexterX,

the greens vandalising and then apologising and reinstating National Party Billboards. As if bogans NZ over would not have taken it upon themselves.

This political life/elevtion cycle - is just so funny - scriptless insanity.

The window to the world of the Cup of Tea; I beat the tape is very Derek and Clive:

JB – I wonder if you are interested in playing with us.
JK – What are you terms and conditions?
JB - There are no terms and conditions you just need to let us be handy to you.
JK – Who do you mean by us?
    JB – Me and Don.
JK – What do you mean by handy?
JB – We would lend you a hand.
JK – Do you both like to play?
JB – Yes, and we are very clean.
JK – I know that, otherwise I wouldn’t be in the bath with you.

I have no respect for any of the current players - what a bunch of.........................ers..

    It truly is tragic.
