  • Hard News: Unreasonable people vote,

Apropos of exactly this, I was reading this Atlantic story the other day,
    link on yahoo
Usually for stories on this, it canvases several reasons for the American people's gap between perception and reality, rather than arguing for the gap being the symptom of a particular cause.

    I can imagine the trailer:
The Undead are rising, and this time it's going to be Savage.

I think in the wake of this, radiographers and teachers should both be able to ask some very clear questions about the Governments earlier claims to have no spare money.

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I'm elated, angry, and saddened all at once. I feel like a traitor to myself both ways and back again. Happy that the film will stay. Unhappy about everything else. Is there a word for this?

I suspect something that sounds like good news, but if there was time to analyse it before the mood was set, would be much less good news (so actual analysis will be seen as churlish).

Don't have time to access the podcasts right now, but I wasn't overly impressed with what I heard - a fair bit seemed to be a diversion into the history of global unions and syndicalism - interesting, yes, but a diversion nonetheless.

My impression is it was a Labour day broadcast that had elements of the current headliner story involving a union added in.

Ahh, but they didn't mention in the letter to their members that the request was actually illegal, and that Peter Jackson had no choice but to ignore the request for a meeting, because if he were to meet with them he would be engaging in illegal activity.

Well the MEAA(NZ) email of the 26th did note:

For a variety of reasons none of these attempts had been successful.

You need to be furious to do this?
I dunno, you writers are just so weird!

It is not so much the needing to be furious to bathe (shades of Harold Fairhair) it is being too furious to write on the matter, and for a writer that is pretty furious.

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I thought, in light of Equity's statement on the 23rd about not pointing the finger of blame and wanting to concentrate on bringing the Hobbit to NZ, I thought this thread would never approach the record.
In light off all the fact-checking today's releases are going to be subject to, I take that thought back*
The level of detailed analysis and bringing of facts to the table in this thread (as well as the, by and large, tolerance) has actually been really heartening. In days of yore I would only have expected to see this level of detail in a long form article or book (and not most of that genre).
That said, Please Please MEAA(NZ) Stop Digging.

*Unless discussion again gets shifted to a new thread
