  • Hard News: Clover It,

It's also very strongly based in church philosophy.

So they are going to miraculously turn that money into loaves and fishes?

It's got big support from people like Michael Jones and Inga Va'aiga Tuigamala, who people say want to get into Parliament."

Being an ex-All Black and a christian is the worst qualification I can think of for parliament. I'd rather a wanker got the job.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! The Highest Mountain,…,

    good old fashioned Anglo-Saxon pluck

Oh that's right - in the jokey vernacular employed in sports circles - some people still like to pretend and (make pathetic jokes) that the English don"t whine. And continentals are all like waving arms and ....who me?

  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

I need the money! Don't let Bob starve, Kathryn!

Now let's be honest, the fear of your child starving isn't really the reason.
What am I doing up at this hour it's 1-1. And I dont care about sport its 'nsomnia. I wonder if those sports chaps are up, I guess not.

  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

And why do so many of us drive our kids to school?

No one reason. But a lingering memory of not being driven to school and having to ..**gasp.. horror** ...walk. We are creatures who like comfort, and only get used to routine by having it imprinted from childhood - car as bribery. Now mum has a car, and it can be used to make her days busy. NZ has a larger share of Safety Nazis for some reason, which seems to translate into politicians who will legislate for everything and at the drop of a helmet. haha!
You do realise that the level of life comfort we enjoy in the western world isn't sustainable and it will be forcibly lowered by external circumstances don't you? And it will probably happen in your child's life time. No more jetting round the world to watch other humans who have been able to devote their lives to becoming very good at some specialised aspect of a sport. And while they may be fit while doing it, for most of them that will fade with time and injuries. And they could end up sickness bennies.
Now that 's what you call cynical and idealistic. And managing to sound the least grumpy I been in weeks...and didn't that 50 years of Tele get off to a good start last week.
Seems my keyboard is missing a thingy.....for bold.

  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

Don't know what the original subject matter was, what songs my kid likes passes the time I s'ppose. And so does observing the behaviour of others on various modes of transportation, pass the time that is, or is a means of bolstering ones own sense of self.
I just like this phrase "thoroughly acculturated into thinking".
And thought I'd put this reappraisal of Marx and captalism's fucked up recent history here.
Alddaily I get absorbed there often.

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

And who knows, they might actually stop treating scrutiny as some kind of impertinence on the part of the peasantry.

Lets hope you are right, and ALL parties take this stance now and in the future, not just to expenses, but to policy put forward as potential legislation as well.
Why do I have my doubts?

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

With all the emotional satisfaction to be had from railing about the issue,

So that smug look on the parade of commentators/talking heads tittering with sly innuendo, and who have obviously got their sex organs in a box - that they only open to check that they are still there - is actually "emotional satisfaction".

One twit was bold enough to call the next election result.

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

    Wooow! Mr Armstrong

She may possess a warmer, more down-to-earth persona than the coolly doctrinaire Richardson and Shipley displayed.

Now is that positive spin? Or did he just have a smile on his face as he wrote it?
Ohhhhh the things my mind can do with the opening "She may possess..." and my mental picture of Paula .........

But her restructuring of welfare is shaping as the toughest test for a still relatively junior minister who likes to keep the arguments simple when the concepts she will be grappling with are anything but.

Is he saying?....no he couldn't be.... So "likes to keep things simple" refers to when she's talking about STuff?..... Or that...that other thing.... people do.... oh shit it... what is it.... how many stock phrases can I stick together to explain it ..... As I mentioned on another occasion.... shitit's..... on the tip of my tongue.

What men and there's dicks. Well I never...

  • Cracker: A Whale of a Tale,

@Andin - no I'm not linking lowest common denominator programming to poverty, and I think it's vaguely offensive you'd even assume I'd make that link.

Sorry mate wasn't saying you were doing that. I just took the opportunity to make that point. I respect your work as an even handed, hard working broadcaster. Been on the job today otherwise I would have replied earlier.
While any connection between poverty and teh stupid is fallacious, there is a very real connection between poverty and ignorance which can be addressed by education.

I was hoping to upset any viewing libertarians, not you.

To the other person who didnt like my opinion of Boy. It was just my opinion. I guess it was supposed to be a comedy although I hardly laughed at all.
I wonder if I'll upset anyone if I say Whalerider (IMO) was a loathsome movie.
