  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

Your mad and brilliant idea for the day.

And it's not even that mad. Obviously, the site needs to find its rhythm for the next six months or so, but there's no show-stopping reason that can't happen.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

Also, do feel free to register and post comments at On Screen too. The "discuss" tab is at the top right of the screen for every programme.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

Can you lot all please stop looking at the site? I can't watch anything cos it's too busy.

    *sobs*

That's strange. It's bangin' through for me on two different connections.

    Where are you trying from?

(If it's work, use the code-word, "harbour")

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

That said, now that I've read your excerpt, I think NZ on Screen needs a new lawyer if they don't want me saving it without breacking the law :-)

I have passed on your observations ...

I knew I'd end up having this discussion with you lot on day one :-)

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

And now you provide Architect Athfield for my viewing pleasure. My cup is full

It was precisely with your current research interests in mind that I posted the link.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

It will still be in flash, but the latest [application redacted] will at least let you save it to your hard drive...

Graeme, it's not like you to fail to read the terms of use ...

This website is for your personal and educational, non-commercial use only. You agree not to copy, reproduce, republish, duplicate, sell, upload, download, post, transmit, distribute, broadcast, store (including, without limitation, in electronic form) or modify or otherwise exploit for any commercial purpose any video footage on this website.

I'm realistic about things being copyable if you try hard enough, but we were only able to obtain rights to the programmes on the basis that they were for viewing on screen, and not for copying. It'd be a shame to mess that up on day one ...

And besides, we know where you live.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

Media 7 was great. A very good evening at the filming, and I'm sure the show will be just as much fun for those at home.

Yep -- it's striking how much it adds to the show when there's a buzz in the audience.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

This is the best thing to hapen since ages ago.

Does this mean NZOA is gonna re-brand?

No, but I think it's a major step in NZOA taking up the opportunities offered by the internet. The NZOA board was also commendably patient about it taking a little while for Onscreen to reach critical mass.

The website was basically finished a while ago -- it's been securing the content that's been a long road, but I hope now that it's there, rights owners will see what it's all about.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

Don't worry. I got wrong-footed exactly the same way the first time I read it.

Thanks for the heads-up -- I've clarified that part of the post.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

I would love to see some kind of license employed for all new work that gets NZ On Air funding whereby it has to be put into some form of Creative Commons License after 15 years. After all most content doesn't have a long commercial shelf life but the cultural importance of the work as an entire body is something that we need to curate and allow access to future generations.

Yep. Even though it's appeared as a buzzword in the Digital Strategy, CC is still a sell to most stakeholders -- not necessarily a hard sell, but something that needs to be explained -- and marketed. Hopefully what we've been able to do will help a little.
