  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

    Who was crap? Scribe.

I didn't go, but everyone I know who went and saw Scribe said he was rubbish. Apparently it was a dull dull, dull, falling back on hip-hop performance cliches like "All the ladies say oh-oh" stuff.

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

For the last couple of years, I haven't gone to the BDO, dismissing myself as being too old. But every year I hear of someone older than me having a completely excellent time (not to mention many people my age and younger), and I vow to go the next year.

Oh well. BDO 2008 for sure.

  • Hard News: Wii Too,

my wife hates consoles, never plays computer games and can't understand why I spend so much time obsessing over tech. But she was the one playing golf

I've never owned a console before I got my Wii. It's the first one that makes sense to me. It's not just about pushing buttons, it's about moving and thinking in different ways.

    Q. Can anyone get the Shop channel to work?

I have it working. You need to have Wii connected to your wireless interweb before the shop will operate.

As well as classic games, the shop has a Wii interwebs browser (based on Opera and free to download). It allows you to browse the net on your TV, but it's is more painful than browsing on a PDA and not really worth it.

  • Yellow Peril: Pinoy ahoy,

Regarding Shortland Street casting, I was interested to read on the official Shorty website that actress Faye Smythe, who plays Tania (a pakeha character), was originally asked to audition for the role of Shannon (a Maori character). Smythe herself was born in South Africa.

  • Hard News: Wii Too,

A friend of mine has a Wii and I've been making excuses to go over and play it. But I've ended up getting my own, and this is absolutely the first gaming console I've ever owned.

Apparently there's a Wii workout game in the works, which I'm sure is going to be snapped up by all the new Wii converts.

I should also add that I have a silver medal in Wii shooting, yo.

  • City Life - oh the lipstick horror!,

I was figuring this out when I was drifting off to sleep last night.

I've decided that the entire Redfern empire has gone broke, which of course leaves room for a massive comeback.

Maxine has become a Paula Ryan-type business woman, but worse, running dress for success workshops, i.e. giving the business woman of the new millennium advice on how to dress like an '80s busineswoman.

Rex Redfern, having grown up surrounded by fabulous frocks, has become a transvestite and is living as Miss Regina Redfern.

Jasmine has left the fashion industry and is presenting the cooking segment on Asia Downunder. Oh, hang on...

And that's all I've figured out. All other suggestions are welcome.

Hands up all those who would like to find out what the Redfern family and nefarious associates are up to these days?

I certainly want to know where my Gloss bitches at.

This Life very recently had a special 10th anniversary reunion special, so I have decided that City Life should do a similar thing. I'm not sure if anyone will watch it, but it will be awesome nonetheless.

  • Hard News: The New Boss,

"Who is this 'Jack' fellow, and why does he have an amputated hand in a jar? Why can't he be killed? What does he mean he's died before? This show is crap!"

I watched the whole of Torchwood without realising that the hand in the jar was related to Doctor Who. It wasn't until after the finale when I was reading the Wikipedia episode guide that I discovered the significance of the hand.

But not knowing that didn't spoil my enjoyment of Torchwood. The whole series was full of mysterious secrets and so much is yet to be revealed that it doesn't really matter if one Doctor Who crossover isn't known - the plot certainly wasn't reliant on it.

Just for the record, City Life was already in production (or pre-production or very close to production) when This Life started screening so there was no influence whatsoever - just coincidence.

After I wrote that bit about This Life, I checked out the dates on IMDB and noted they both came from 1996 and wondered if perhaps they weren't related.

At the time, I remember disliking City Life, but after seeing last night's episode, I can't think why I didn't like it, because it pushes all my Auckland buttons (Courtville!)

When I watched, and love, The Insider's Guide to Happiness, I wished there could be a similarish series in Auckland. I mean, can't we have interesting people in their 20s doing things around here on the telly? Please?
