  • Hard News: Prospects,

hmmm things just got a little sureal - I just got a letter addressed to "John Key C/- Paul Campbell" (he must be hiding in the cellar or something) - the return address is "The Inconvenient Truth About Winston Peters" - and it's addressed to John and signed by Winnie - it sort of reads like a bad Peter's press conference so I guess it's really from him.

It points John to a web site that's been specially set up for me personally (maybe that's why he's hiding in my cellar) - I tried looking at it (at www.MrKey.co.nz) but I guess it knows I wasn't really John because all it did was throw up a blank screen and loop telling me I had a bad password (it didn't actually ask for one).

Seriously though - this piece of crap page is about 90% javascript (and maybe 50% of that is commented out - thanks for looking out for my bandwidth cap Winston) and the variables in it rather condescendingly refer to me as a 'prospect' - note to NZFirst - next time around maybe you could try it on more than just explorer ...

I think the non-citizen franchise is a wonderfull thing (but then I was disenfranchised for 20 years) roll on no taxation without representation

  • Hard News: Prospects,

    I'm having a down day ....

It's snowing outside, for the third time today, and the third day in a row, in November - I predict 3 years of winter ...

  • Hard News: Prospects,

I'm listening to a hilarious bit on nat radio about Rodney's jacket - they were saying he really needs loud checked trousers and large white shoes.

I think they missed out on headware - probably he needs a too-small shiny bowler hat

and as my wife pointed out yesterday that 49% are "53 million rednecks with guns" .... a little bit of a generalisation

  • Hard News: Prospects,

I actually don't mind waiting - sure it's a letdown if you don't know right away - but I think it's healthy that they take their time and get it right - it's part of what MMP is all about

I do wish the whole process was more open - I want to see agendas exposed and compromises made - because IMHO that's the healthy thing that MMP does for us - provides a mechanism to make public compromises rather than being stuck with dogmatism

I lived in the US for 20 years - didn't get to vote anywhere on the planet in that time

This time of year I felt like going down to the Bay and dip a teabag in

You can't vote in NZ once you've been out of the country for 3 years - these days apparently they let you vote of you come to visit every 3 years but back then that's not what the local NZ consulate would say (and then they shut it down so I never got the message that it had changed)

In some states I believe non citizens can vote in some local body elections (school board, dog catcher, ....)

I never took US citizenship, couldn't get past the hoops one had to get through renouncing ones NZ citizenship but knowing full well that it had no effect, and knowing that the Americans knew that too - it all seemed quite hypocritical .... now I'm screwed since I can't access 20 years of SS payments unless I move back

This year I do get to vote - and I will! in some weird ass-backwards symmetry to make up for my not being able to vote anywhere for 20 years my wife gets to vote in both countries

Yeah I can't get a read on Key either, as I've said before he seems to be a cipher - people seem to project what they want on him - to me he seems bland.

I've worked for enough tech companies over the year to see this as just being one of the marketting guys - and I have enough stories about those guys to make your hair stand on end - it just runs my BS detector way way up

  • Hard News: History is now,

we know the VC torturers broke him and forced a confession out of him - how do we know they didn't remake him as their future tool of world domination (well apart from that it was a book and not real - so far as we know ...)

Absurd maybe - but strangely appropriate to today's election - who could ever have imagined .... (and how could you tell he's not actually a 'Manchurian Candidate')
