For so long he's been in this time capsule of a 22 year-old; now he's 35 and looking pretty middle-aged. All those years wasted...
That's what struck me too.
(On the bright side, at least he's sorted out his fashion sense while behind bars)
That too ...

Mr Wishart has also now accepted that Broad was not in the room when the film was shown.
Pardon? This story does seem to be falling down around his ears.

Heather -- I think it's something to do with deeper systemic corruption in the police force in Dunedin and Canterbury, of which the pR0n film is only part. And that officers involved in the Bain case have a history of dodgy going ons. Or at least thats how I see the very long bow being drawn.
Yes, and if it's shown that Milton Weir, the former police detective who investigated the Bain murders had significant undeclared entanglement with Laniet Bain, via her apparent prostitution, then that would be of concern.
But as I've said, I just didn't find Joyce Conwell's amazing account of her persecution by Weir and the other Dunedin police - running from Weir regularly stealing money from her handbag, to forcing her to confess to an attempted murder, to the whole Dunedin police framing her for separate convictions for murder and attempted murder - to be credible. And I'm not surprised that Tim Barnett and others didn't either. If the whole crazy thing turns out to be true, I will surely apologise.
So yes, there might be something turned up by the PCA investigation. But the way Wishart has framed the story - as a gotcha involving a clutch of evil, conspiring Labour MPs deliberately covering up child sex rings, corruption and the framing of victims - just seems bogus.

From Idour's statement defending himself, released today:
"It is just too long ago to recall specific detail and I am not prepared to speculate." (Stuff.co.nz)
And yet he is presumably the source of the very specific detail about Broad watching and enjoying the film. Amazing.

Idour has now issued a press release confirming that he is the source for Wishart's story about the bestiality video. He has denied allegations that he supplied the film.
Idour being, of course, a known liar (even if you accept his excuse about protecting his client, he did lie about being hired by Exclusive Brethren members to spy on the Prime Minister and her husband) and loose cannon.
Next question, for Mr Wishart: would you like to revisit earlier statements about never having received ""anything significant" from Idour?

My, you are trusting, Russell, or is that naive? If it's similar to the video I saw many years go (of course!), appropriately entitled Animal Action 2, then I doubt that is the case. Yes, most of the *actors* were male and some appeared to be wearing wigs for some reason. But there were one or two females doing certain ahem things with dogs. Enough said.
I'll have to take your word for it - I haven't seen it and wouldn't wish to - but the only such scene reported with respect to this film (not video) involved a man and a chicken.

Ouch.
Feel free to delete that poorly researched joke, Russell. I'd completely forgotten that he'd passed away.
Don't worry. I find it interesting: Hunter was a revered senior cop and rugby coach, and no one so far has had the nerve to bag him for failing to take action.

I remember when Brown was deputy to John Smith in the shadow chancellor role. Smith was away, I was working from home and watching a parliamentary debate (sad bastard I know, but it meant I also got to see Geoffrey Howe give Margaret T. a totally unexpected mauling).
Me too! I've always been grateful I saw that speech by Howe. It was the beginning of the end for Thatcher and the most amazing moment I've seen in any Parliament - all the more so for being, as you note, completely unexpected.
Brown tore his opposite number to shreds in a manner that was quite stunning. I fear for Cameron now that Brown has his hands unshackled.
I'm afraid the Howe speech has blanked that out of my memory, but it would certainly fit with my memory of Brown.

Former detective sergeant Peter Gibbons has now confirmed he told King the owner of the objectionable film was Idour and described events at the party, saying that Idour was told to desist but wanted to keep on watching the film.
Wishart is refusing to say whether Idour was his source, but says it wouldn't make sense for someone who was feeding information about the story to have himself been at the centre of it. Indeed.
Wishart still hasn't named his source for the claim that Broad watched and enjoyed the film.

As you say, they elected Labour - surely that means that the PM (who is basically a party leader able to command a majority in the house) can be whoever Labour elect.
That's actually what I meant. Sorry if it wasn't clear. There have been mutterings about whether there had to be a leadership contest for the good of the nation, but Labour would be quite within its rights to simply appoint a new leader, uncontested.
