  • Hard News: Dear John,

Just to remind a few people, 9 years ago Jenny Shipley was ...still, the new face of National.
There was a while to go before Bill English made his entrance on the Beehives Got Talent show.

But dont you think its a bit strange that Joyce is being lauded ... so soon,as the the new John Key.
Once the Key children are on to University, I think the boy wonder will move on to fresh pastures

  • Hard News: Safer Communities Together,

While on about silly George, heres a takedown about silly Jim

    http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/SC0704/S00001.htm
"So simplistic, it's silly" is how Dr Auer describes the statement by NIWA climate scientist Dr Jim Salinger that "As climate warming occurs, the atmosphere can hold more moisture and therefore more rain falls and therefore what we have thought of under past climate data as one-in-100 or more reduces."

“While qualified climate scientists will cringe at Jim Salinger’s nonsensical interpretation, ordinary New Zealanders affected by adverse natural weather events should rise up and demand that administration of all climate matters should return to its traditional home, MetService,” said Dr Auer.

There has been longstanding clashes between the weather people and the climate people over' the Science'.
Same thing happened over the Atlantic Hurricane season.. and the weather people won , since you dont hear anymore about global warming bringing more hurricanes... since it hasnt.

  • OnPoint: Manufacturing Dissent,

Look up the 1993 thats right 1993 Criminal Justice Amendment Act. s39

The 2002 legislation only changed some details of the existing laws bought in by National. The reason, so they wouldnt spend a cent on new prisons.

  • OnPoint: Manufacturing Dissent,

Coming up is a new variation of the parole laws that National introduced in the early 90s when they allowed one third of a sentence to be served before you were eligible for parole.
I reckon they will go for 25% this time.

Trouble is how do they sell it to their hardline base.

  • Hard News: Save the King's Arms,

First the Citrats zoned areas like around the KA commercial/industrial so the speculators could make money from changing the area from residential. 1960s
Then they allowed residential blocks that are allowed to ignore usual residential zoning so the speculators can make money turning the area residential again.2000s
Note the noise rules are less restrictive for houses in commercial zones.
    Fail- Fail all round

"During its 31st session, in New Zealand on June 27, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee approved a change in the entry for the remains of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The previous name, “Auschwitz Concentration Camp,” has been changed to “'Auschwitz-Birkenau. The Nazi German Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945).”

    Who would have thought.

Maybe we make Whanganui a world heritage site or apply for a Unesco World City of Literature or something as a consolation prize for adding the 'h'

Isnt Dunedin home of the Undie 500 the ancient Gaelic name for Edinburgh. Pehaps the Scots might want their name back

  • OnPoint: Gotcha?,

Seems like it all follows on from Slaters interest in a 'high profile' person who was having his dirty linen washed in public.
Slater was bitching about getting late night calls from lawyers for the high profile person and some wag on his blog posted the name and contact details ( from whois) of his local hosting service and said leave poor Cam alone call these people instead.

I assume he got a decent smack for the purposes of prevention( not correction) from his hosting service and Caribeean Cate obliged as a job lot of newly registered entities
