  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

Then again I've always thought of a DJ as a performing artist, although the concept is a hard sell to many.

Technically, I suppose so, but, sorry, no. Having been a mildy unsuccessful musician and DJ for many years, I have to say that there is no comparison. Sure, it takes some skill in putting a DJ set together, but the idea that (as performance) playing records is on a par with playing music, somehow reminds me of this line from Bad News:

"I could play 'Stairway To Heaven' when I was 12. Jimmy Page didn't write it until he was 26. I think that says a lot." - Vim Fuego

  • Hard News: Friday funnies, mostly,

China has 4 new Nuclear power plants in progress at the moment. The 3,610 MW capacity they are expected to generate is actually a good thing compared to if those plants were coal fired.

Until there's an accident (which would, I presume, be known as "The Pennsylvania Syndrome".)

  • Hard News: The Near Future,

Well, you have to credit Moore for one thing. He predicted a cartoon of Labour morphing into Muldoon and, the very next day, such a cartoon appears in the Herald. If he was right about that...

  • Hard News: Nasty,

    daft story

Man, I laughed so hard when I saw that Herald article. A few days earlier, I'd found those changes (MoJ: 3x Pirates of the Carribean edits, 2x Echo and the Bunnymen edits) myself, by simply Wikipedia-scanning "Zealand" and checking out some of the likely prospects. Funnily enough, I decided it wasn't such a scoop as to warrant a mention here, or anywhere.

As for Judith Collins, well, good luck expecting any intellectual honesty from her, but 3news...?

In both cases local news organisations prove, again, that either they can't tell the difference between news and bullshit, or they don't care to. My guess is, in 5 years they'll both be asking "why don't people rely on us for their news, anymore?"

  • Hard News: This just in: Sky over Tasman…,

Meanwhile, The Press has picked up (naturally, without attribution) on Rob O'Neill's scoop about an Air New Zealand employees editing the article on the ill-fated Erebus flight -- and rather missed the point.

It's about time someone took this sort of thing to the Press Council; it's straight out theft of intellectual property, and should be nipped in the bud.

  • Hard News: More Wikipedia Scanning,

Someone at Air New Zealand has excised chunks of the Wikipedia article on Flight 901 to Erebus, and at least two people from an IP address range associated with Telecom have removed text critical of Telecom or Xtra. But it would be wise not to go off the deep end about it.

    See tomorrow's Christchurch Press.

  • Radiation: You're killin' me,

Last night I watched an *entire* segment of One News (from break to break) within a 3 News ad break, AND an *entire* segment of 3 News within a One News ad break.

That old line about the ad breaks being longer than the programmes? Sometimes it's actually true.
