Russell--You gave few signs of impending lurge during the Media 7 taping on Friday. I think it was a good discussion but some might think less of Simon Pound's delightfully disrespectful piece on the SPADA conference.
Did you get to my "Saturday Night At The Movies" pitch for The Big Pitch? People said it was a programme they 'would watch' but I am not sure what I will do with it next.
Remakes, eh? I still maintain that the 1955 original of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the very best, in terms of capturing deep anxieties about loss of identity and self (+ a political sub-text).
I am currently much-exercised currently about a TV3 promo I saw a couple of nights ago--a TV3 journo waxing on how wonderful the Sensible Sentencing lot are. Makes it all rather transparent, really--as well as demonstrating how naive some journos are.

It is just a hunch, but I sense that Sky may have reached its saturation point for the New Zealand pay-TV market--unless they can provide some great new incentive for new subscribers. If times do get tougher, the churn rate is likely to increase ($120+ per month is rather a lot if you are not getting much that is new).
We may have such discussions at the SPADA conference this Thursday/Friday, as I see Russell is on the programme. I have a proposal accepted for the South Pacific Pictures The Big Pitch competition on Friday but I don't know what my chances might be.

Perhaps we could also propose bulk funding of bulky politicians--Brownlee would lead the pack.
A prime imperative is to prevent ACT getting their paws anywhere near education. What, for example, is Heather Roy's agenda?

Seconded, but what can be done about it?
I don't we should forget about the proposal which was floated some time back, to set up some sort of funding mechanism for independent/freelance journalism. I am still willing to put $$ towards this--and if I ever win Lotto, a heap of $$$ (another option would be to buy up Investigate magazine, and have a nice bonfire!!!)
We should revive our conversation about this.

It goes against my usual habits but in wake ("wake' being the right word) of Saturday's events I have decided, to quote Elvis C. to "Maintain radio silence from now on.." --or at least for the next few days. It has been quite a revelation to not listen to radio news/commentary, read the tedious old Herald, or watch TV news. I recommend it. PA is the one exception.
This resolution was reinforced this morning when I turned on NR, to catch something about the AB's excellent game yesterday, only to hear Roger Douglas sounding like a demented old goat.
On a completely different topic, I booked a ticket for Leonard Cohen this morning, thinking he might be cheaper than BDO. There are two ticket options: $142 or $172 (both + $5 fee). Maybe I have been out of the loop for live concerts, but ain't that rather a lot??

Thanks, Matthew, for sharing this with us. I really wanted to get to this talk but it clashed with a Pecha Kucha night in Hamilton. Did he attract any media attention?

Another consideration, which is beginning to be acknowledged by some pollsters, is the dependence on land-line telephone polling--ignoring the significant shift to mobile phones. This further undermines the statistical validity of any findings.
Too many pollsters also ignore the 'don't know's' or refusals-to-respond. They tend to be treated as know-nothings, when they are perfectly valid responses to intrusive research methods.
