  • Hard News: What rules are these?,

I think the word paparazzo and paparazzi should be vanquished in relation to these contractors, its meaning whilst apt isn't widely known and as such the term seems to justify/validate their professional choices

  • Hard News: Weirder yet,

This story seems like its straight out of the: what happens when you break the "what happens on tour stays on tour" rule/guide.

It will only end up fodder for Whaleoil and those whom have taken it upon themselves to air all of the Dotcom's laundry in public and they will taint anyone who they come across with their stench

    its all bad politics baby

  • Hard News: What rules are these?, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

Lorde interests the media because they can make much money off her (and all the other celebs) - be it photos, tweets, mentions and the like- as opposed to talking about her art which is of little interest because there's no money for the media in that angle

To be fair about the lack of media around her rise - interviews weren't offered nor accepted initially... except for the Listener piece.

Media will have their pound of flesh, be it with photos or not... At least in Lorde's case she isn't pandering to them, overly and hasn't lost her voice at the bequest of the marketing dept - she continues to shine as a person and a artist, long may she reign

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Just the Tunes,

Enjoying the short sets, minor gripe they haven’t split them up into tracks like last year… makes repeat plays of the tracks I want to overplay a tad harder, then again maybe this is a good thing. Looking forward to the night at the KA, was super fun last year

Shunkan whose on the Fancy New Bands billing has her debut EP up for sale or streaming

Is this the sound of modern day Invercargill – I do hope so :)

And for them that like a little acid (non synthetic aural goodness) the Lord Of The Isles fact mix is great, at around 40mins in oh my *smiley face* https://soundcloud.com/factmag/lord-of-the-isles-may-14

  • Hard News: A law gone awry, in reply to Moz,

I doubt he gives a rats arse about having a stance on much at all - using the right words to sway an opinion poll or election however

  • Hard News: The sphere of influence, in reply to Matthew Poole,

Your should read them more often... its been at least 18 months since national supporters were even close to the dominant voice on herald comments - either the moderation or whatever they employ with the comments have made the herald at least worth a skim, often better expressed and formed opinions presented than those the paper pays for - generally I can't say the same for Stuff, especially stuff nation

A teacher once told me the only honest and real part of a paper were the letters to the editor... which in today would include comments on articles (or forums)

  • Hard News: The sphere of influence, in reply to Matthew Poole,

We need to fund parties from the state or this sort of bought influence will only get worse

While they all do it... National seem to be the most blatant in regard to "buying favours" but also, I feel, the most understandable in their response to donors - its business, pure and simple, the dollar rules and you are accountable to those whom pay the bills

What National MPs seem to miss is govt isn't a business and being good at one will not make you good at the other - if only many voters understood this too

  • Hard News: Friday Music: The Superstar Economy,

Bandcamp is awesome as a platform and means for artists to sell direct - but also really painful to use, if you know what you want or have a direct link you're sweet but discovery in itself its pretty useless - as are most digital stores to be honest, fantastic intuitive search engines they are not

Like in the physical world (of old) you can never rely on one service/store, but you always have ya fave

  • Hard News: Friday Music: The Superstar Economy,

The long tail is stuffed with classic songs and gems that very few people want to buy or hear, your vanity items and shit call is a little disingenuous - one shouldn't suggest the material in the long tail contain no merit or need culling, just no one should expect them to earn much if anything... as was the case when physical dominated, sales were still concentrated on those with the biggest (marketing) budgets and like today breaking even on a release was the best the vast majority of acts could hope for

Nothings really changed but the access to music one could never have dreamt of hearing 15+ years ago, which is a positive thing to my listening habits

The skew towards the few I'd say confirms the long tail theory - its just that the skew is to a very very small % not quite the 50/50 breakdown the wiki page suggests

Would a label and their acts as seen here survive Mulligan's cull?

There is more to culture than commerce but everyone here knows that :)

  • Hard News: Illegal Highs,

This all seems like a knee jerk reaction to the media frenzy surrounding how these substances were destroying the very fabric of our society... and as a result we can expect little rationale dialogue around recreational drugs for a few more years?

Meanwhile the minimum alcohol pricing is rejected (booze = good drugs)

I guess the problem youths et al will now move from one retailer to another - back to the local booze shop. And from one health problem to another too.

    *sigh*
