  • Hard News: Friday Music: News from…,

The Beck's partnership is with the NZ Music Commission not IMNZ :)

Estere is fantastic - if you've not had the pleasure seeing her live is a most enjoyable experience, she has a really endearing personality

Wish I could say the same for Janine live but I've yet to have that pleasure, Dark mind however has been often heard on my music playing devices - she's wicked cool

Diplo and Lorde I really want to hear!

Go the talented woman! And another long weekend

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Record Store Day, in reply to Alan Perrott,

I assume so yes - was told last night that his collection was at conch. I would hazard a guess (I don't know either way) that Conch either bought them or gave whomever representing Clinton the best terms of trade.

I also echo yours and kudos sentiment re RSD - it was meant to be a means to get people back into stores all year round, not for a day - its more record company day as they churn out releases and re-releases that wouldn't have the same buying frenzy from stores or public without this special day. Saying that better than not having the day at all as it still serves a great purpose for the musically inclined

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Record Store Day, in reply to Robyn Gallagher,

...and todays youth from my experience have a similar feeling about downloading - foreign stuff fair game but locally produced pay for it. A rather odd side effect that lingers on

From my experience of music wholesale/distribution CD burners really really hurt sales - remember a certain ad agency getting a CD burner quite early in the piece and the nearest music shop went from ordering multiple copies of titles I looked after to 1...

Seems like a century ago given where we are today, yet it was only a few short years ago

I wish I had a rather large wad of cash this weekend - the RSD releases are all very tempting and I'm sure I could find a large number of tunes from Nick D's and Clinton Smiley's collections being sold off at Conch - in the spirit of Nick (and bangin' tunes) here's a wicked Kenny ken six mix special on the formulate years of jungle/dnb https://soundcloud.com/everybodywantstobethedj/kenny-ken-6-mix-jungle-special

  • Hard News: Friday Music: True love works…,

would be gutted to see soundcloud kneecapped - its my goto for mixes and music podcasts, real fast delivery and a nice sense of community without the need ott rubbish most sites favour

And this week it served me up this nugget:

    https://soundcloud.com/tim-richards/louis-baker-birds-tim-1

I really like Louis Baker's music...and this remix makes me love it, beautiful stuff

Following on from last weeks post -

After a campaign to get the Godfather of House Music to #1, Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle‘s ‘Your Love’ finished the week at #29 in the UK Singles Chart.

and a great piece by Terry Farley (no house slouch himself)

  • Hard News: To be expected,

I saw a tweet that suggested if the greens and labour present a united front for the election it would give our Media the option of shooting two birds down with one stone (story)... instead they now have to do two unflattering stories covering the respective parties

  • Hard News: The perilous birth of the…,

If Bunnings were to implement a plan to build huge stores in more centres I'm sure the general outrage felt by so many (it seems) would move onto other things they don't want in their backyard

Or - and still we await a time when recreational drugs can be discussed and policy proposed in a intelligent manner by our politicians, media and nimby's

Cheers Russell for your continued rational take on this all

  • Hard News: The Language of Climate,

I see the solution (management of) to our climate concerns and many others as being linked - its how we're living thats the root of so many of humanities problems, all of which seem pressing

We need to address the fact we live under economic and political systems not designed for our times, populations and core human values - endless growth, rising levels of inequality, wholesale destruction of our environment for short term gains etc etc.

We've advanced to the point where maybe we need to slow down, take stock of what benefits us most as a species and work on creating a sustainable and quality of life focused world where we all benefit and as such the planet will too

Needless to say we're a two generations late on making a start on this sort of adjustment and probably won't do much constructive until its too late for so many...

  • Hard News: Friday Music: The Godfather…,

You get used to hearing and reading about many who've had an effect on your life and whilst sometimes sad and sometimes simply news the passing of Frankie really struck me this week and I was gratified to see the homage paid via twitter, facebook etc, a globally shared expression of love - so HOUSE!

Thanks for the music and for those you inspired Frankie!

  • Hard News: Gower Speaks,

I couldn't care less for the continual news reportage of polls.... seems only to satisfy the math geeks who seem 100% in agreement that they are (seriously) flawed and cannot a soundbite make

Why Mr Gower insists on doing them the way he and his peers do frustrates me as its not entertaining nor enlightening nor actually news worthy

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Electric Dreams, in reply to Grant McDougall,

global release.... and not only for a day as last years re-issues still being on sale attest

I want both (and the other kiwi re-issues) and yet (collector gene) my original copies are fine...

I counted 405 Record Store Day special releases... which kinda makes me despair at the entire concept of the day - who is it actually helping? Ebay resellers it seems
