  • Hard News: The Spiral of Events,

No, Craig, I don't think he has a cunning plot. I believe he has just let things run to a position where he can gain maximum advantage. Winnie loves being the underdog.

  • Hard News: The Spiral of Events,

On the RNZ news this morning:
"Mr Peters' lawyer, Peter Williams QC, says he has seen a statement from the Spencer Trust, which received the donations, which shows the money was used as intended.

He says the documentation will be shown to a senior SFO executive.

Mr Williams says it should have been examined before his client was subjected to the accusations."

  • Hard News: The Spiral of Events,

Interesting analysis, Logan, and one that I agree with. I don't see Peters as a fool - he's demonstrated his ability as a politician, if I can put it that way, many times in the past. A clearance on the SFO investigation will take the sting out of the Glenn donation mess. Winnie then has a perfect platform to campaign on - the crusader defeats the dark forces!

Grant and others of his ilk seem more interested in telling we peasants what they think is good for us, rather than leading by example.

Back in the 1970s groups of people tried living their communitarian dream..remember Ohus? I wonder why these comitted libertarians haven't done the same, to prove to the rest of us that their ideas will work? Or maybe...they know they won't.

  • Hard News: Food Show 08,

I've forgotten two of the biggies from Dunedin - Stewart's Coffee House, who roasted and ground their own coffee, in the 1970s. They were downstairs (again!) in the lower Octagon. A wonderful smell would waft up the stairs when you walked past, and whisk you down for a brew. The company still exists, but as a coffee supplier, based near the university.
And then there was Cowells, the originator of the famous Cowells pavlova. They started in lower Stuart Street, over 40 years ago. The cafe which occupied the shop after they left closed a couple of weeks ago.

I'm also happy to see that cheese rolls are still a popular cafe food down here!
