I have just been to The Inside Job, a doco which everyone should get to.

So have I. More analysis in my other post.

I'm looking for a 3D model of the city that can cope with complexity. And not for a Room that Echoes...

According to NZOnScreen, the video was directed by John Day. My inner geek wagers that the graphics were done on an Amiga 1000 or Atari ST.

And still on film, the Paramount is showing an encore screening of Inside Job. Basically reinforces what we've suspected already - and exposes other stuff that we didn't know about. The sense of denial on the guilty parties' faces was self-explanatory, and as far as they're concerned, crime pays if you have a big fat chequebook.

And if it swayed the likes of Bernard Hickey...

Well for starters, the RWC is going to lose many millions of dollars, and is being underwritten by the government. So more money to pay people will mean we lose more.

    The Big Owe, anyone?

And when the Auckland City Council effectively outlawed shoeboxes, at least one of the offending developers turned its attention to Wellington.

The challenge is where to draw the dividing line between cheap & cheerful, and cheap & nasty (which we've seen too much of in central Auckland and hopefully won't take hold in Welly). I'm sure Tom Beard can provide a 2ns opinion.

As for john key he didnt look good - my opinion - look if your gunna do it at least make it look good. And so it is like Benny Hill. And when I was a kid i loved Benny Hill. Ahh, youth, and then I found out. And cue the trombones.

My personal take on the 'celebrity crush' thing is that it's symptomatic of a mid-life crisis. I suppose the same could also be said for a certain born-again biker too. At least according to Bevan Rapson.

For all the puffery that's been going on here and in private, we hardly ever stoop to the depths of certain other blog-pits we know all too well. I've had a few near-misses myself, but that's mainly happened when stuff gets lost in translation - which is funny in hindsight given that English is the 1st language for most of us.

Maybe Gordon McLaughlan was right about us being the 'passionless people'.

KiwiSaver is significant for bringing investment to the non-investor - I'd go as far as saying that it's brought investment to the Roger Awards crowd. The biggest obstacle to KiwiSaver's full potential now - like the Temasek model - are the lingering Dancing Cossacks attitudes towards it from the usual suspects. The same attitude that dissolved the British National Oil Corp.

And hyper-materialists need reminding that Kath & Kim is a sitcom, not a training manual.

And even Bob Jones made his disdain clear of the BCom:

"I might employ a commerce graduate as a gardener but definitely not for anything that requires thinking."

The speaker is multimillionaire property tycoon and author Bob Jones, famous for, among other things, saying he is interested in employing only someone with a generalised degree.

It's a question that occupies the mind of many senior school students deciding on the best course of study - should they opt for what will guarantee them a job, or for something that fascinates them no matter how impractical?

"I want someone with a general knowledge, general interests, someone who can think," says Jones.

A commerce degree is a "ghastly thing to do", he says. And an MBA is "a confidence trick".

"Universities are dealing with people at a critical stage of life and denying them education. How about human nature, curiosity? Poor kids."
