Part of the problem, in fact a very large part of the problem, is the number of students studying Business degrees and the sad lack of those studying what you could use that business for. Having a commerce degree is useless if we have nothing to sell.

Or they have a delusional eye to the speculation industry on Wall St or The City. Or should that be what's left of it?

Indeed, most infrastructure grows business. More roads does that. More rail. Better telecoms. Reliable cheap electricity. It doesn't need to be free, it just needs, in some cases, to be torn from some rip-off monopoly that's sitting on some sweet position, milking it, and doing jack to improve it.

An abusive monopoly could be thought of as a Polish shipyard listed on the stock exchange.

Which entirely describes Brash who challenged the sincerity of Clark's relationship while sleeping around, but may not so apply to Key.

And then there was Christine Rankin's childlessness jibe at Helen during the smacking debate. Rankin herself is a divorcee of near-Liz Taylor proportions, and was embroiled in a reputed affair with the widower of a well-liked real estate agent who'd committed suicide.

Self-proclaimed Family Values types? A bunch of fucking hypocrites if you ask me, with a capital F. Pun fully intended.

Sexism isn't the issue regarding the PM's celeb-crush interview with Veitch. Rather, the real issue is the implied hypocrisy where the powers-that-be pontificate about "Family Values" being the silver bullet for crime and promiscuity, yet the lecturers practise anything but.

Meanwhile, another Tory gets the jail.

The same guy who infamously tried to 'censor' the NZ Internet.

Also via Balloon Juice, Glenn Beck goes insane. Again:

Protocols of the Elders of Zion/Mecca/Beijing/Moscow... what next?

And it's official - Mubarak has decided to throw in the towel. And whoever it was who made all the videos on Stuff.co.nz auto-play - you will be strapped down in a chair and made to listen to The Transformed Man.

The PIGS comparison is blatantly misleading, and those who cite it for political reasons know it full well. If anything, Iceland is a potentially more accurate comparison, due to privatised nature of its debt.

And if anyone's been reading the comments on the Stuff.co.nz Kiwis in Egypt article, you'd be forgiven for thinking we're devolving into Social Darwinist rat-racism. Especially if Henrygate and Fullergate were anything to go by.

Despite pretence of a hands-off approach, the current government is clearly pinning most of its economic hopes on the farming sector - with targeted research funding (replacing broader R&D proposals), massive ETS subsidies, resource consent and regional governance changes, and now the suggestion of publicly-funded irrigation schemes as advocated by Conor English and chums. Real champions of private enterprise.

Or to put it succinctly, the Agriculture-Industrial Complex.

Hopefully our government's position is becoming more constructive today, though they still seem to be putting their faith in the free market for evacuating our citizens, and hand-wringing over the impact of their failure to take action sooner. Muppets.

Especially since normal commercial flights will likely eventually be grounded for security reasons.

Mubarak has kept Egypt stable - until now. He's ruled Egypt under an effective state of emergency for 3 decades and doesn't know when to quit.
