  • Hard News: History is now,

If I was certain Obama, Pelosi Reid et al would govern like Clinton from 94 to 2000, or Clark or Rudd, or Blair or Brown, in NZ, Aussie or the UK, I would be quite relaxed, but we just don’t know.

Translation: Having finally realised that the future may not precisely mirror the past, I'm a little twitchy about tomorrow.

James - give it a rest. The whole ponderous-musings-of-a-bumpkin-abroad schtick was never really all that cute. It's the little down-homey Rushisms like hairy armpit brigade and Obambi that make you so special

You guys may want to wait until his inauguration speech for the rhetorical fireworks.

    Bring it on!

Heard the Obamas Law Professor from Harvard, say that . . . it was Michelle he expected to be running for executive office, with Barack maybe making the best Mayor . . .

I guess a law professor would know more about these things than onetime Warner Brothers studio head Jack Warner, who seems to have seen suitability for political office in terms of casting. When asked what he thought of Reagan's running for Governor of California he was supposed to have said, 'No, Jimmy Stewart for governor. Ronald Reagan for his best friend.'

Hopefully, whatever Senator McCain advises will be taken by his more crazy followers to have altered the case.

Hopefully you're right, but I suspect that there's a thicker-than-concrete old lady out there who still believes that Obama's an A-rab.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

. . . an astonishingly widespread and incredibly awful advert for downloadable IM smileys.

I knowthe one you mean - and every time I stumble across it I think of Sarah Palin.

It's not going to happen, Craig, rest easy. It's going to be a white guy.

Of course - the 'First Dude'.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

. . . no one gives a so much as a droplet of a fuck about young boys getting their foreskins cut off and thrown out for the dogs

Oh yes they do - see here for Israeli production of Interferon (is that still good for anything?) from foreskins:

Every foreskin that's wasted, makes God quite irate - although Fido, Muttley & Scooby Doo miss out on their tasty treats.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

The Grey Lynn tribe is made up of intellectuals who value ideas more than things. They are well-educated, highly principled, socially aware, culturally sophisticated people. They believe in collective social responsibility, and that individuals should make a difference by making the world a better place.

I haven't lived in Grey Lynn since it was a collection of mud huts clustered around Harvest Wholefoods. Sounds like it was probably a shade more, um, diverse back then. Does anyone know if there are still a bunch of police staff houses in Castle Street? The guy who was in the Blue Squad was a surprisingly nice neighbour ("Those people should never've come here but we got a job to do"). There was also a notorious plumber whose kids were responsible for 90+% of local crime. Apart from him I guess most of the natives were averagely, if not highly, principled. As I no longer live there I guess Mr. 8 Tribes is on the money.

  • Hard News: Because They Could,

. . . snap out of their addled airhead postmodern stupor and acquaint themselves with Ayn Rand.

If Enid Blyton wasn't so damned girly Perigo would be advocating the moral and economic rigour of the Magic Faraway Tree.
