Bloody Actors. How do we know this isn't just an act.It might be a workshop.

Or they need a better script

So imagining a perfect world where Paul Henry is sacked, leaves or joins a cult.
    Who should replace him ?

It wasn't my guess, but someone else's. And there wouldn't be any debate about it if Equity had fulfilled the minimum reporting requirements for the last three or four years.

Fair enough and yes Equity seems to be somewhat shambolic , which of course makes its very difficult uncover the facts.

There are other under reported facts on the producers side , Jackson talk of a residuals deal for all NZ actors working on the Hobbit sounds very generous , except the residuals only kick in 18 months after the DVD release - making them almost worthless . Devils in the detail.

I don't think people here are being "overly emotional", and I think Simon in particular has shown real empathy with the actors' position. Compare his careful arguments with Trotter declaration of of class war and tell me who's being emotional.

Russell I was referring to actors getting emotional about this issue - not the people on this blog.

  • Hard News: Yet More Hobbit,

Firstly Richard, saw you in a production of the Caretaker a few years back, thought it was brilliant.

Peter that would be my brother David Aston - David is my source of info on this issue as is my other brother who works in film crews .

  • Hard News: Yet More Hobbit,

If anyone wants to take the pulse of the situation, then the comments under Chris Trotter's article are a good place to start

And Trotter's article is a useful and somewhat balanced take on a complex situation.
Note the membership numbers for actors equity are 600 not the 200 that Russel guessed at. Makes a big difference to one of Russel's arguments ie equity only represents 10% of NZ actors) , this also was based on a guess of 2000 actors in NZ - I think that's a pretty wild guess - I know many young"actors" who get almost no real work at all. I suspect the number of professional actors is closer to the 600 mark.

The actors may be hopeless at PR ( compared to Jackson) and may be overly emotional about this but so what. I think its important for us all to try and unravel the truths from this mess as much as is possible.

Richard Aston - it *could* be a Textor gameplan - but how do they get The Greens to play along?

umm.. . get Russel to wave a flag about , that was a great distraction last time he did it.
Oh forgive my cynicism but I can only hope that Russel is right when he said

The in-depth analysis will hopefully follow from many quarters in the coming days

    , will it?

Mmmm. Could they not even have managed an abstention? I mean, generally I think abstentions are a big wuss-out, but very occasionally they're the better part of valour.

Yeah its somthing , how about just walking out of the house, or better take a lead from the Russians and start throwing eggs and smoke bombs.

And where have the media been on this? It didn't even make the TV news tonight .

Call me paranoid but on the day we legislated unbridled exec power they bring in the ACT clowns to distract us all.

wow! non of our elected representatives had the balls to vote against this bill - not even Hone ?

I was stunned by the breathtaking audacity of this bill , but I'm far more concerned that no one actually voted against it.

Have I missed something here ? Are there just the few of us on this blog who see the issue here ?

Man ! the earth shakes a bit - we all shit ourselves , get hypnotized by the endless media images and allow the politicians grab unbridled power.

Oh well safer than burning down the Beehive I guess.

Did any politician vote against this bill? Any at all ?

By the way, where can we find the vote record on bills?
