  • Hard News: The Trophy Hunter,

why was the minister making this private call in search of a resignation anyway? If he truly believed there was a public case for Thomson's departure, why not publicly say so?

What is the point of having power unless you abuse it? After all, it is the "Right" thing to do eh?
On a little off topic not. Is anyone else getting that "OMG, conspiracy" feeling about the "Economic Crisis" ? If you look at the resulting effects we have; higher unemployment, lower wages (globally) vast amounts of "Debt" written off etc. A dream result for the New World Order.
    Say it ain't so.

  • Up Front: Why Does Love Do This to Me?,

Have you ever genuinely solved a work problem in your sleep?

Most of the time, actually. A lot of my work involves design for building alteration/renovation. I like to finish a job in my head before I physically do much of the prep work and most of the time it "comes to me in a dream". I often get "Nagged" about starting a job when I am really hard at work. :-)

  • Hard News: Trading Trade Me?,

trademe? I see John Key is going to auction his cast on that site. Do you think he is going to sign it?

Is it all his own work?

We shall have to ask Graeme about the legal ramifications of such behaviour.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

What 'recording industry'? Where? Sorry Steve, that, is just nonsense on so many levels.

Although there were no "official" statements issiued on this at the time there were people (Ashley Kozac springs to mind, yes I am that old and I was there) who saw "Disco" as a way of improving sales of records that required no real bands. Session musos and producers, such as himself, could produce records without relying on real bands and live performance and the sales push would be through "Discos"
The "Rave on Robbery], rave on." was a reference to Buddy Holly, who generated a vast amount of cash for the industry but gained little for himself, for obvious reasons.

    @Lyndon
Yes, I was just listening to BFM's "The Wire" discussing that very article.
    Cheers.

  • Legal Beagle: A grand jury?,

the decision not to charge Helen Clark over the art forgery?

Come on Graeme. I expect better of you.
The Clark case was not a case of forgery, what was forged? neither the painting nor the signature.
The fact of the matter is Ms Clark autographed the back of a painting that was donated to raise funds for the party. She never claimed to have painted the picture. The fact that some saw it as some kind of blatant act of deception was because of a political "beat up"
    *sigh.

We'd be a lesser world if all musicians got 'proper jobs'.

Most musicians I know do have "proper Jobs"
The point is we should not "criminalise" sections of society to guarantee someones free lunch. The "Recording Industry" is a bubble who's time has come to burst. Do you recall a campaign during the 70's called "Keep Music Live"?
It was run by the musicians union and opposed by the recording industry. It was a reaction to "Disco"
Do you remember "Home Taping is Killing Music"?
I could go on but the point is that things change, shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted is just plain dumb.
You want me to buy something? make me want to buy it. Make it better than what I can get for free.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

tell us more about how you resent the people who's stuff you want for free.

What resentment? there is no resentment.
If you, or anyone else for that matter, wish to try and entertain me and I am entertained. Then I shall applaud, you know, with that pointless banging together of the hands that is so common in western society. Or, if I find your actions and sounds so entertaining I wish to repeat that experience that so entertained, then I will find a way to repeat it.
If, on the other hand, your motive is to extract money from me by telling me over and over how great you are and that I must purchase your wares or join the squares, then I make my choice whether to do so or not. If you choose to produce so many copies of your works that they can be found in the bargain bins of low brow retailers as surplus stock then that is nobodies fault but your own. If there comes a device that can make as many copies of something that the original becomes worthless as a tangible piece of property then that's life. Get over it and get a proper job.

an I was going to apologize for my substandard barney the dinosaur joke, but I can see Dad style jokes are perfectly fine in the present company :)

Maybe you should take some advice from your elders occasionally and desist with the tantrums.
Who ever told you life should be fair?
