  • Hard News: Reasons to be cheerful,

That's fairly outrageous extrapolation of any information about the shooting so far.

For which I'd dearly love to be proved wrong.

Sadly, the initial impressions are not good.
Offender drove through a police checkpoint while police chatted.
Offender drove past police cars after stealing the second car.
Police bullets strike two bystanders, killing one.
    Major operational fuck-up.
If the race insinuation proved to be valid it would be the icing on the, particlarly, stinky cake.
Not a good look, heads will roll.

    Yes, the Lycra thing.
Maybe practical for racing but hey, we ain't racing here. Is it the equivelent of a boy racer on a bike? I don't think so, it lacks the cool. But then, maybe in cyling circles it is cool to look like a banana.

  • Hard News: Reasons to be cheerful,

Where to put cycle paths is a tough one.

How about opening up the sewers for cyclists? Whenever I see those multi coloured Lycra clad shaven legged plonkers covered with fake advertising weaving in and out of stationary traffic with scant regard for the frustrations of poor impotent car drivers who have no choice but to sit there sweating in their tin boxes in the heat of the summer with nare a drop of liquid to moisten their parched lips as their life ebbs away moment by interminable moment I hope and pray for the day when we can say "Enough allready, to the sewers with the lot of them.

    ;-)

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

    Requirements for notice of infringement
A notice referred to in section 92C(3) must—
“(a) contain the information prescribed by regulations made under this Act; and
“(b) be signed by the copyright owner or the copyright owner’s duly authorised agent.

So. for the ISP to send you the infringement notice it has to contain the signature of the copyright holder or his/her authorised agent. Can of worms there. Either the ISP, upon discovering copyrighted material, has to track down the copyright holder or their agent or the copyright holder instructs the ISP to issue the notice and he has to sign it. I suspect many ISPs will end up with stacks of forms awaiting signatures, which when signed, will have to be posted out to the infringing party. a signature is a signature, you can't do that by eMail.
As all of this cost the ISP time and money, how long until ISPs develop a "blacklist" of users and effectively ban certain individuals from teh internets?
In light of recent statements from such as the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) (and I don't even own a phonograph) such as

Most music will eventually be accessed over smartphones such as Apple's iPhone and Research In Motion's BlackBerry, said Terry McBride, who manages Sarah McLachlan and Avril Lavigne.

    Ref
what next? banning people from having cell phones?
All this kneejerk reaction stuff forced on us by governments that cow tow to the media industry is bollocks, plain and simple.
I guess musicians will have to sing for their supper instead of sitting on their boney arses waiting for their fans to play their tunes for them.
As for take down notices to Youtube because you can hear a tune playing in the background of the video of babies first steps, gimmee a friggin break! As if a punter is not going to by a cd because he can hear the song in the background of a Youtube clip. These guys must be fuckin' nuts. If you cant make money out of something and all your interested in is money then naff offf and do somthing else.

On a completely unrelated note. I just checked my readouts from my home ventilation system. It is 51.5c in my roof, that's about 125f.
I think I will stay out of the loft today. ;-)

I recall a conversation on a bus while I was back in England a while back. A couple were discussing the guy's younger brother.
"Well I don't know how he thinks he can move out of Mums"
Yeah, like he's not up for it I reckon'
    "Nah. He can't even iron"

  • Hard News: Reasons to be cheerful,

It said there were reports the incident began when a man tried to steal a handbag. He was then said to have got into a car and driven off.

He is reported to have ditched the car in Titirangi before getting into a Skyline, TVNZ said.

Police shut the motorway with one witness describing it as "looking like a carpark".

I wonder, did the get the handbag back?
