If, like me, you won't have a chance of observing the Transit of Venus, here's one I prepared earlier (well a coupla minutes ago...)
...and not to be mistaken for this one! -
Ch-ch-chilly Chchch...
Steady snow falling, and settling, in Shirley this morning,
Venus is gonna have to put chains on the Transit,
and even then we won't have a chance of seeing it..
...now where will I be in a hundred years?
Oh, right... -
Speaker: The Voyage: Full Steam ahead, in reply to
resource for the goose...
I think there’s a good chance that you’re right that the economy won’t be 4 times as large, but I’d suggest that what prevents it won’t be running out of resources, but shooting ourselves in the foot by mismanaging those we have.
I think Russel Norman summed it up very succinctly at the weekend...
Norman said the country had lived for decades off its "natural capital", which was now "much depleted".
"The forests of the plains have been felled, burnt and ploughed to within a few hectares of disappearing completely," he said.
"We've damaged and eroded our soils. We've polluted the majority of our lowland rivers and streams. We've pushed the wildlife – animals found nowhere else in the world – to the brink of extinction."
Attention was turning to "what remains", he said.
"The lignite under our feet, the freshwater that still makes it out to the sea, and the oil that may lie deep under our oceans. From the beginning of colonisation there have been those who see Aotearoa simply as a place to make a quick buck."
The Government had "given up" on building a more balanced economy, Norman said. -

Errorists...
I often read it out loud...
That's how we used to do it in the proofreaders' room at The Press - before the machines 'won' - a reader and a copy-holder, who would often tick each word, four eyes and ears, two brains, and even then the odd mistake would get through... such as some politician being described as "the Leader of the Oppression".

My eyes seem to run over the mistakes and my brain just fills in with what I meant to write.
The trick is to read the text expecting everything to be wrong...

Now we see the other side of Dick Quax
On Destiny Church Super City:Auckland councillor Dick Quax says Mr Tamaki's ambitious plans should be praised.
“He's looking at educating people, helping people with social problems, ” says Mr Quax. “No problems with that whatsoever.”Auckland councillors Sharon Stewart and Dick Quax, as well as the Howick Local Board, joined the calls for the construction to be halted and the community’s concerns heard.
“The Minister of Education and the ministry have ridden roughshod over the wishes of the local people who have not been consulted and are rightly worried about having up to 100 teens with severe behavioural problems attending a facility that adjoins their children’s school,” said the councillors....and now we'll never know what size the classes were going to be...

Please sir, could I have some Moreu…
Bears a passing similarity to Mike Moreu
who abruptly vanished a while back.I suspect it is Mike Moreu – based on some of
his other recent work – he has dropped the
blocky constructivist ‘signature’ his Fairfax
work carried and the hard clearline for a
slightly less Al Jaffee more Jack Davis line
(see this ‘Key/Terminator’ cartoon )
the cartoon you link to does have an MM in
the signature and his layout sensibilities ……and I suspect he may have even been channelling
your Bride of Frankenstein clip in this old cartoon.
;- )Good to see him back, I think he hit a
rough patch there for a while… -

Dirty Digger II....
I reckon the main reason Brownlee comes out with this
stuff is because it pisses off people he doesn’t like.Either that or maybe he is covering up a major
peat mining operation in the redzone....Excellent collage by the way.
