we don't want to assume that Smith will be blessed with perfect health and stamina for every minute of the world cup, do we?

I'm sure we can find a fullback to play centre in a key game for the 4th world cup in a row.

Weepu leaving is just an extension of the Mark Hammett fall out, Piri was apparently great mates with Ma'a and so they both bailed. Man you Aucklanders are gonna have a great backline next year...though it didn't help us this year.

Nah, I'm a fan. But supposedly the coaches wanted to try Wlliams and Nonu together for a bit.

I reckon that's a risk, playing Conrad with Ma'a seems to get the best out of Ma'a, playing Williams with Ma'a fills me with dread.

Seeing Jane have a blinder filled me with joy. Man that guy is a good player.

We still haven't had a good look at the Nonu-Williams combo

I'll never understand you Auckland folk and your lack of confidence in Conrad...

I'm not even sure I'd have SBW on the bench. Kahui offers a bit more I reckon.

    Paul:

I wouldn’t call it vigilantism, this is civil disobedience.

    Russell

But I’m actually more okay with this. It’s a media protest in a media space. And (unlike, say, NPR) the villains are actually villains

Like I said, I haven't made my mind up yet. Can we make this a real world analogy? Burning all the copies of a print-run of a newspaper? Spraypainting "MURDOCH SUX" on a building? I dunno, I guess I'm just not that comfortable with any groups taking the laws into their own hands. But then at the end of it all, Lulzsec are probably just 19 year olds.

    Poetic justice

It's funny isn't it, for some reason, we become detached from the fact that we are witnessing vigilante justice play out. It happens in an online world and we perceive no-one to be hurt by it, so we are ok with it.

Yes News Corp have been dicks (understatement acknowledged), but are we ok with a group of anonymous 'hackers'* dishing out their own form of punishment?

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it, just thought it worth discussing.

*I use the term hackers lightly, a few denial of service attacks isn't super amazing

  • Hard News: An excellent evening in Newtown,

Short of academia, good luck finding something that uses your degree.

I ended up doing comms for the man. Go figure.

if you want to drink together and talk philosophy, what you want is a SYMPOSIUM

Is that a symposium on philosophy or do all symposiums lead to bullshit?

  • Hard News: An excellent evening in Newtown,

You get that when you invite philosophers to your parties.

I have a degree in philosophy and every time I turn to Saturday's job section I never see ads for philosophers (I also have a degree in Political Science, another rare job opportunity!), how does one become a philosopher? And is it a vocation found at the bottom of a glass?

I concur, if you could not leave it another four years please, that'd be grand.
