  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

Marc Ellis' conviction for his part in a certain "celebrity drug ring" hasn't been a kiss of death to being as over-exposed as a stripper's map of Tasmania.

The difference here is he chose to use drugs .Basically you can fuk yourself up, we can understand that. a lot of people accept personal choice. But when you take away that personal choice you are left answerable to your actions. I think that is why " I was wasted and didn't know what I was doing"is often used as a defence and (yes Ian) it does become the degree of the act that determines the severity of the consequence. And as a conspiracy theorist, I would say, the timing of this could tie in with a bunch of sport celebrities who don't know what the cops have got but they are all "buddies" and then we know what meth is like, makes people do things they wouldn't normally do, (refer to David slacks Courtroom 15)

  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

    well said and noted kyle.
it is sad, and we as a society don't appear to be much better at accepting and dealing with our flaws as a species than we ever were. we need a fallen celebrity to motivate us into action, and then we'll most likely forget about the issue once his case has drifted from the front page.

Robbery, while I often agree with you,(we seem to have a similar cynical out look, ;) I think the msm feed off this and many do like the gossip but it is pretty well recognised on PA that the media can be complete offal, so, as I try to establish my own view, (often disregarding the news/papers etc) I am sympathetic to those who think otherwise. Nobody but me is going to think like me, If manipulation by media tries and succeeds, yes, ignorance is bliss, but to be aware of that in itself, is to know and that is the power. I am a firm contributer to honesty being the best policy. I am often reminded that I was lucky my mum and dad thought so too. Sometimes I am too loud but I know if I am honest, it is not a problem, and__ that__ ,my friend, is power. Don't need to forget, if it leaves the "front page" just do your bit to make it better for everyone.

  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

does no one else feel uncomfortable about that?

    I do.
As the ad on Nat Geo says
If you wanna drive like a maniac,
    " " " beat someone up,
" " " punch someone in the head
You can "just call it sport"

I can't get behind that! Enjoy the game folks, hope your whatever team wins.

  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

When you see the damage done, only one thing should be obvious, sort the fucknuckle who did it. We (on this thread) are fortunate enough to share abhorrence to this despicable act of violence.Unfortunately, some are just stuck in it without support.
To see similar situ, I know I shout for justice (as you have probably gathered via other threads). My reasoning being, IT IS NOT OKAY!!!!
Tony Veitch, you have brought your employer, country, fellow human beings into disrepute. You must go,,and let me suggest, go to the cops and explain yourself, because that is all there is. As a public figure you chose to assault and chose to live with it.As remand prisoner 007 says "Man up"
Kristin Dunne Powell, you have been through enough. I would take the money but I would never protect that coward. Justice has now been served. Let the Law protect you.
(why do I keep thinking back to Sep '06 celebrity drugs bust?)

  • Hard News: The Mood,

Russell posted this on Truck off etc.

    · The forum’s own research reveals that a 10 percent increase in the RUC would add roughly just one percent to operating costs.

    · The forum says “I have broken a promise to give one month’s notice of an increase, but does not say that the promise I actually made was to amend legislation that will in the future address notice issues. That amendment is currently being drafted, but was not ready in time for this year, and nor do I know if I will have parliamentary support for it.”

    · “The Forum does not mention the support I am giving trucking companies, and the criticism I am receiving, in allowing and defending the current trial of heavier trucks. If the trial is successful, companies will be able to carry heavier loads more cheaply.”

  • Hard News: The Mood,

What Veitch did was wrong and he should make amends as best he can. I see the settlement reached as a positive process and wonder if anything to come from this will be beneficial to anyone

I think you are right Shep. Should we as people, be able to sort this out without recourse to law or trial by media? I think that is mature, and I see it as positive if both parties agree.Noones business but theirs.
The trouble that occurs is opinion gets in the way,This is why I feel unless the woman wants to complain,( in his case, an arrangement is made) she should be left to decide her own outcome. The Police can deal with this if__ she__ wants. Rather simple, revenge or recompense,
PS. I just want to thank those who care 'bout my bullshit and all your kind words. I am touched.I will survive!

  • Hard News: The Mood,

It's just all too common. We have a good simple campaign that has stuck with people. IT"S NOT OK! but sorry, as before,. the sisters NEED to be doing it for themselves also.Everyone needs to be involved here. Damm the publicity, "shit happens". It is now an unfortunate ugly part of our society that feeds off the misery of others. Sort the real problem out I say! you know, when something lingers ,it generally stinks.
I luckily on a lighter note can advise I had my last lot of chemo on Sunday and its all up from here as so far they are very pleased. How the year has flown (in more ways than ya think ;) ) Thanks for askin'

  • Hard News: The Mood,

    Mine doesn't matter.

Me too but was just thinking, my only comments, please refer to the What goes on tour blog and insert physical violence where the term Rape is used and 'sports personality' where 'rugby players is used and about sums it up to me again. And I will take on board all the comments there also. I mean at least shes not in a wheelchair for the rest of her life eh! At least Veitch can still talk about that rugby eh. I'll shut up now.
