  • Hard News: Slumpy Cashflow,

I get a big bag of sundried tomatoes from Khyber Spice in Sandrigham. I collect jars throughout the year and add herbs ,olive oil (rice bran is pretty cheap) and said tomatoes, bit o' garlic ,bit o' chilli . Do similar with feta cheese from the same place. Can get the feta for $8 kg.Different choices there. And their olives are mmmm. That is what I give for xmas presents. Not expensive, promise, Anyone can grow 1 or 2 herbs, and wont need alot of space for veges . The tomatoes are $3 and I make 3 500g jars.It means feta, sundried toms and olives all year long.mmmm

  • Hard News: Electrickery,

On an earlier thread I asked the question

I have been looking at usb tuner dongles. Question, if I get a usb dongle that supports just mpg2 will it be useless for NZ's mpg4 broadcast? Or what about the WinFast DTV2000 H pc card, this one will do dvbs and dvbt but only mpg 2 again or do I have to get a mpg4 card or is that just the recording format? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!

I still haven't found the answer,(even on geekzone). So far I haven't spent the money I was very happy to part with over the weekend.I thought Customer service was bad but on last try ,I got a nice camera:-)Still would appreciate an answer if anyone does know."Should work" isn't convincing enough.
I think management (and there always is someone)can encourage their staff to be more helpful . That is what good management skills are. That is why their wages are higher.

  • Hard News: Misquote Unquote,

Sophie, no matter what the original ideal of the Olympics, they now stand more for the self aggrandisement of national leaders rather than any unifying principal.

I may have been ambiguous . I realise that politics play a large part of the Olympics but cant find any time that a country has been banned from hosting. There has been much controversy, with different boycotts, and NZ has even been reason for a boycott. China knows its history, we know some,if they want to host the Olympics, they should expect controversy .Haven't heard of any nz athletes not going yet.If all new Zealand athletes pulled out, NZ could/would have to pull out, then what message would that be to China? I imagine it wouldn't require government to do anything.

  • Hard News: Misquote Unquote,

The couple of chinese citizens I converse with every week have mentioned their pleasure of living here and going home for holidays. They also love NZ and believe their children will be more worldly because of our education and democracy. Ones comment last week was he had been taught that Tibet was part of china 1000 years ago but freely accepted he may have been misinformed. The other Thing I have noted with them is they love quality over cheap chinese imports (their words) and our fish! They know about pollution so shyed from eating fish in Beijing and think our waterways are luxury in comparison. I agree with I/O .They do believe in patience being a virtue.
As for the Olympics, they were formed to embrace nations without any political agenda, weren't they? The bringing together of different peoples. If so then China has as much right as any country to host.Heard from a mate how difficult it was to get anything done in Athens.

thanks Felix, makes a bit more sense now. Although from what you could gauge,do you think the National party are beginning to understand the importance of having policy, to be able to prepare its position?

Dunno 'bout party pills, but I suspect by the time of the election most of us'll be wanting to vote for a Chill Pill Party.

They said the Green party was gaining popularity ; )
