    My big fat Greek tragedy...

    It was a boycott.

    <fantasy>
...as the pickets continue at the strike-plagued Thrace for the Yankee Windup (formerly known as Spartacus ), a new musical fantasy movie about the saving of The Hobbit has been announced in the nation's film-making hub, Pollywood (formerly known as Wellington).

Lysistrata: Kissing the Pink Book (by noted play-makers Ew-Whipp-ides and Arresto-phonies) tells the story of un-Medeaa-savvy women who, refuse to be shafted, and continually fleeced, by the ongoing male dominated pally-production wars...

Cinesiastas, frankly incensed by Myrrhine's withholding her favours complains to the ruling council, then the erected representatives meet and dance in union with Reconciliation - proving once and for all that this is no town for old men...
    ...or something like that!
    :- )

  • Hard News: A few (more) words on The Hobbit,

I like a bit of an exchange of ideas on art,
it makes it better, but I hate abuse.
I come here for the ideas.

This is a good time of the year for them,
    they blossom and bloom prolifically...
    - but beware the ideas of March!
Sapped of the summer, their parts
    peter out, wither and evanesce...

  • Regulate What?,

    Bush lawyers caught flat footed...

    Security required in aisle 3!!!

    it's always the pedoff aisle
    where the peduncles lurk...

I fear Russell is sleeping in...
I think I'll head out to the garden
to lop some laterals and cut back
    the creepers and stalkers...

  • Hard News: Revival,

    A call for spoiler alerts...

On another matter. I guess it had to happen one day (that is, the Wallabies beating the ABs)

Boy, am I glad I didn't see this before I got a chance to watch my recording of last night's delayed broadcast of the game, this morning...

    - any chance we can all agree on a 24 hour moratorium on posting game results here?
(or at least a banner Spoiler Alert!)
We don't all have Sky y'know...
and I carefully avoided the radio news...
    ...a close thing all round!

Perhaps Donald should've stayed in the Waikato team, and Cruden been selected, then we might've won - though, to be fair, kicking seems to have been a problem for both sides...

De Vermis Mysteriis... & other grim moires

"Vermillion Sands" is one of my benchmarks of really screwed & weird vision

wait till ya see with 3D glasses on...
    ;-0

but seriously, isn't that the strength
    of Ballard's oeuvre?
    ...dislocation, disintegration, dystopia
    and general cultural dyspepsia...

    Fillumseatseyedockupi...
China Miéville's The City & The City would
    make for interesting visualising...
...as would M John Harrison's Nova Swing
(The Zone in which reminded me of Tarkovsky's Stalker thru Ballard's Vermilion Sands type glasses...)
[plus] Paolo Bacigalupi's the Windup Girl - probably best filmed out of Bollywood than Hollywood to get that feeling of teeming culture...
[ditto] Amitav Ghosh's The Calcutta Chromosome

    Recycling... words
If there's any novel begging to be adapted to film, it'd have to be Jeff Noon's Vurt. Last I heard, film rights were sold but no one actually got it beyond pre-production.
Or is it really that unfilmable?
    :- )

Greg Bear's City at the End of Time would be good to see too...
